Graber, Magnotto <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 61-73 BY: Messrs. bIcBride, Sinagra, <br /> Usher, Werner, Brockman, <br /> AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE creating the position of Director of Aid for <br />Sen or Citizens for senior citizens residing in the City of Lakewood and providing <br />compensation therefor. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, there are large numbers of senior citizens.residing in the City <br />of Lakewood, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a substantial number of'said senior citizens require assistance <br />and aid other then financial,and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council determines that a Director of Aid for Senior Citizens <br />be appointed to give assistance to senior citizens in the many and varied problems <br />which confront such individuals in such manners as obtaining the benefits of Home- <br />stead reduction in real estate taxes, Blue Cross, Medicare, social security, transport- <br />ation, processing correspondence involving claims and benefits, consumer protection, <br />home maintenance and repairs and the multiplicity of other areas in which assistance <br />is often sorely needed'and unavailable, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this ordinance constitutes an emergency measure providing for <br />the immediate preservation of the public health, safety and welfare and for the usual <br />daily operation of a municipal department and for the further reason that the afore- <br />mentioned assistance to the elderly should be provided at the earliest possible time, <br />now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF TRE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1.- That there is hereby created the position of Director of Aid <br />for Senior Citizens for senior citizens residing in the City of Lakewood. The duties <br />of said Director shall include, but not be limited to, providing aid and assistance <br />to the elderly and to those persons who might because of illness or other unfortunate <br />circumstances require aid in matters involving Medicare, social security, Blue Cross, <br />Homestead exemptions on real estate taxes, consumer protection, transportation, proces- <br />sing correspondence involving claims and benefits, and home maintenance and repairs, <br />and further to provide services to the senior citizens of the City of Lakewood in such <br />other matters as may be necessary to fully discharge the intent and purpose of this <br />position. <br /> <br /> Section 2. The Director of Aid for Senior Citizens shall be compensated <br />at the rate of Six Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($6,500.00) per annum, payable <br />bi-weekly, commencing from the date of employment of said Director. The Director <br />is specifically prohibited from accepting any compensation or remuneration, directly <br />or indirectly, from any individual to whom service has been extended. <br /> <br /> Section 3. Additional funds not to exceed Three Thousand Five Hundred <br />Dollars ($3,500.00) per annum are hereby provided for miscellaneous services and <br />~ransportation expenses. <br /> <br /> · . Section 4. Funds required for the purposes set forth in Sections 2 and 3 <br />hereof are hereby appropriated from the General Operating Fund (Division of Health). <br /> <br /> Section 5.
