ORDINANCE NO. 18-79 BY: Brockman, Brown, Chinnock, Magnotto, McBride, Wendling AN ORDINAI~CE to supplement the Building Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood by enacting new Chapter 1325 of the Building Code establishing an Architectural Board of Review. WHEREAS, the City has' initiated and implemented a number of programs in an attempt to upgrade and improve the commercial properties in the City, and WHEREAS, Council deems it is tn the best interest of the City of Lakewood to establish an Architectural Board of Review to assure the continuation of and the preservation of improvements .to the commercial properties of the City, now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. That the Building Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood be supplemented by enacting new Chapter 1325 of the Building Code which shall read as follows: CHAPTER 1325 ARCHITECTURAL BOARD OF REVIEW 1325.01 ESTABLISHMENT OF BOARD An Architectural Board of Review is hereby established. Board, when used in this Chapter, shall mean the Architectural Board of Review 1325.O2 MEMBERSHIP The Board of Building Standards and Building Appeals established by Chapter 156 of the Administrative Code shall act as the Architectural Board of Review. 1325.O3 PURPOSES OF BOARD The purposes of the Architectural Board of Review are to protect the value, appearance and use of property on which buildings are constructed or altered~, to maintain a high character of community development, to protect the public health, safety, convenience and welfare and to protect real estate within the City from impairment or destruction of value. Such purposes shall be accomplished by the Board by regulating, according to accepted and r.ecognized architectural principles, the d~'slon, use oF materials, finished grade lines, dimensions, orientation ;~nd location of all main and accessory buildings to be erected, moved, altered, r(;modeled or repair'ed, subject to the provisions oF the Zonino and R,~ildir-9 Codes and other applicable or('.inanccs o¢ thc Cily, and sh~ll t;~ke into consideration the Architectural Standards Workbook which has been adopted by the City. In reviewlng, re9ulatin9 and approving buildin9 plans, the Board shall consider and take cotnizance of the deve'lopment of adjacent, contiguous and neighborin9 buildings and properties for the purpose of achieving sal:e, harmonious and integrated development of related properties.
