Ordinary repairs and nonstructural <br /> alterations may be made to a nonconforming sign. <br /> No structural alterations shall be made in, to <br /> or upon such nonconforming sign, except those <br /> required by law to make the sign conform to the <br /> regulations of this chapter. <br /> <br />(2) Additions and'£nlargements. A nonconforming sign <br /> shall not he added to or enlarged in any manner, <br /> except to make the sign conform to tile <br /> regulations of this chapter. <br /> <br />(3) <br /> <br />Novin~. No no~conforming sign shall be moved in <br />~.hoJe or in part to any other location unless said <br />.sig:, and the use'thereof, is made to conform to <br />all regulations of this chapter. <br /> <br />(4) <br /> <br />Restoration of DamaBj,e,d Noncon/'ormi~g Signs. A <br />~-onconformin9 sig~ [~ich ~s destroyed or damaged <br />by fire or other caus~ to the extent that the cost <br />of restoration will exceed {60) percent of the <br />original cost of said si!Bn, shall not be restored <br />unless it is ma~e to conform to all the regulations <br />of this chapter, or any subsequent amendment thereto. <br />In tile event that such damage or destruction is less <br />-than (60} percen~ of the original cost of said sign, <br />no repairs or construction shall be made unless such <br />restoration is started within six (6) months from <br />the (late of the partial destruction and is dilligently <br />pursued to completion. <br /> <br />(5) <br /> <br />Discontinuance of Use of Nonconformin9 Signs. A . <br />~onconformi~§ sign, the use of which i~ discontinued <br />for a period, of thirty (30) days-, shall thereafter <br />conform to the regulations o.f this chapter. <br /> <br />(6) .Change of Use of NoncOnforming Signs_. Where the <br /> business use or identity associated with tile <br /> nonconforming sign at the time of the adoption of <br /> this chapter , thereaftertem)inates or changes, <br /> such termination or change of use Shall require <br /> termination of the nonconforming sign, and the <br /> use of said sign shall thereafter conform to the <br /> regulations of this chapter. <br /> % <br /> <br />(7} Conformance Date. All graphics, signs, marquees, <br /> canopies, and awnings rendered nonconforming by the <br /> provisions of this chapter and permitted to continue <br /> shall be removed, altered, or remodeled to conform <br /> to the provisions of this chapter no later than <br /> January 1, 1985. <br /> <br />APPEAL PROCEDURE. <br /> <br />A variance from the strict application of 'the provisions of this <br />chapter may be granted by tile Board of Building Standards in <br />regard to an existing nonconforming sign or a new sign to be <br />installed, erected, constructed, or painted, if the Board <br />finds that requiring strict ~compliance with the provisions <br />of the chapter may impose an undue hardshit) and that the <br />granting of the variance from the provisions of this chapter <br />may impose au undue hardship and that the granting of tile <br />variance frm)i the provisions of this chapter will not <br />depreciate or damage neighboring property, will not create a <br />safety hazard and will not be cuntrary to the purposes of this <br />chapter. Tile procedure for al)plying for variance and the <br />hearing thereon shall be the same as in cases involving zoning <br />variances. <br /> <br /> <br />
