PLEASE SUBSTITUTE FOR <br />ORDINANCE SUBMITTED WITH <br />DOCKET <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 9-84 BY: Brown, Chinnock, Gallagher, Graham, <br /> McBride, Salmon, Wendling <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE creating positions and fixing salaries of <br />the annual salaried sworn personnel in'the Division.of Fire of the Department <br />of Public Safety except the Fire Chief, effective January 1, 1984, and <br />repealing all other ordinances or parts of ordinances inconsistent therewith. <br /> WHEREAS, this ordinance constitutes an emergency measure providing <br /> for the usual daily operation of a municipal department in that in the interest <br /> of public service, welfare and safety, it is necessary to fix the compensation <br /> of employees; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> Section 1. Positions are hereby created and the Compensation of <br /> annual salaried sworn personnel in the Division of Fire with the exception of <br /> the Chief of Fire shall be as follows, effective January 1, 1984. <br /> <br />DIVISION OF FIRE <br /> <br />Rank <br /> <br />Assistant Fire Chiefs <br />Fire Captains <br />Fi re Marshal <br /> <br />$35,356.98 <br />$3O,745.2O <br />$30,745.20 <br /> <br />Firefighters <br /> Detailed as Electrician/Mechanic $28,183.10 <br /> Grade 1 $25,621.00 <br /> Grade 2 $23,913.00 <br /> Grade 3 $20,006.00 <br /> <br /> Section 2. In the Division of Fire, Department of Public Safety, <br />Grade I Firefighters shall consist of firefighters who have continuously <br />served in the Division of Fire two (2) full years, or who, in the judgment of <br />the Director of Public Safety, have acquired equivalent training and acquired <br />experience in the Division of Fire in some other City. Grade 2 Firefighters <br />shall consist of firefighters who have served continuously in the Division of <br />Fire for more than one (1) year, but less than two (2) years. Grade 3 Fire- <br />fighters shall consist of firefighters who have served in the Division of Fire <br />for less than one (1) year. Provided, however, that there shall be no increase <br />in salary to a firefighter by reason of said grouping until certified by the <br />Director of Public Safety. <br /> Section 3. Firefighters who are accepted for employment with the <br /> Division of Fire having experience with Fire Departments in other communities <br /> and are certified as Firefighters Grade 1, shall be hired at the grade of <br /> Firefighter Grade 3, and will serve in that group for a period not less than <br /> six (6) months. After that time they shall be promoted to Grade 2 upon <br /> recommendation of the Chief of Fire, and serve in Grade 2 for a period of not <br /> less than 18 months. After such time they shall be promoted to Grade I upon <br /> recommendation of the Chief of Fire. <br /> Section 4. That this ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency <br /> measure for the reasons stated in the preamble hereof and provided it receives <br /> the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members of Council, it shall take <br /> effect and be in force immediately upon its adoption and approval by the Mayor; <br /> otherwise, it shall take effect and be in force after the earliest period <br /> allowed by law. <br /> <br /> I <br /> <br />Approved:~/ /~/~/~~ <br /> <br /> <br />
