ORDINANCE NO. 36-84 <br /> <br />BY: Brown, Chinnock, Gallagher, Graham, <br /> McBride, Salmon, Wendling <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE to amend paragrah (g) of Section 135.10 of the <br />Administrative Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood to <br />provide reimbursement to members of the Auxiliary Police Unit for lost wages. <br /> WHEREAS, members of the Auxiliary Police Unit donate many hours of <br />their time without reimbursement, and <br /> WHEREAS, said members as a result of their volunteer duty, are often <br />required to appear as witnesses in hearings during their regular private employ- <br />ment working hours, and <br /> WHEREAS, this requirement to appear at said hearings may result in a <br /> loss of salary to the member, which loss this Council feels should not be borne <br /> by the member of this volunteer unit, and <br /> WHEREAS, this ordinance constitutes an emergency measure providing <br /> for the immediate preservation of the public health, safety and welfare and for <br /> the usual daily operation of a municipal department; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> Section 1. That paragraph (g) of Section 135.10 of the Administrative <br /> Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood, now reading as follows: <br /> <br />135.10 AUXILIARY POLICE UNIT <br /> <br />(b) . · <br />(c) . · <br />(d) . . · <br />(e) · <br />(f) . . . <br />(g) Service is Voluntary. <br /> ~ary Policemen shall <br /> within the City. <br /> <br />All services performed by Auxil- <br />be on a voluntary basis and <br /> <br /> (h) · · · <br />shall be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />135.10 AUXILIARY POLICE UNIT. <br /> <br />(a) <br />(b) <br />(c) <br />(d) <br />(e) <br />(f) <br />(g) <br /> <br />(h) <br /> <br />~e~vice is Voluntary. All services performed by Aux- <br />iliary Policemen shall be on a voluntary basis and <br />within the City; provided, however, the Director of <br />Finance is authorized and directed to reimburse a mem- <br />ber of the Auxiliary Police Unit for any actual wage <br />loss as a result of his required appearance for any <br />criminal or civil trial or hearing which is a direct <br />result of his voluntary service as an Auxiliary Police <br />Officer for the City of Lakewood, upon certification <br />by the Director of Public Safety. <br /> <br /> <br />
