shall not exceed sixteen (16) feet in height <br />above sidewalk grade; the bottom of the sign <br />face shall be not less than eight (8) feet above <br />sidewalk grade; no part of the sign shall <br />project over the sidewalk; and when the sign is <br />in proximity to a vehicular access drive a <br />protective barrier shall be provided around the <br />base of the pole sign structure. <br /> <br />(10) Real Estate Sign. One temporary <br />double face free standing or wall sign <br />advertising the sale, lease or rental of <br />the premises or part of the premises on <br />which the signs are displayed, not <br />exceeding five (5) square feet, shall be <br />permitted. <br /> <br />(11) Projecting Signs. May be permitted <br />in the Office BI, and Business- <br />Residential BR Districts in cases where <br />innovative design is demonstrated and <br />where no potential safety hazard to <br />motorists or pedestrians is created, <br />subject to review and approval by the <br />Board of Building Standards. <br /> <br />(12) Awning Signs. One awning sign <br />shall be permitted. The total area of <br />one face of the sign shall not exceed <br />six (6) square feet and the vertical <br />dimension of the sign shall not exceed <br />twelve (12) inches. <br /> <br />(d) Supplementary Area and Location <br />Standards. <br /> <br />(1) Side and Rear Entrances. In cases <br />where the office or business building <br />has an entrance from the side street of <br />a corner lot or has a back entrance from <br />a parking lot open to the public, <br />additional sign area equal to twenty- <br />five (25) percent of that permitted on <br />the front of the building may be used <br />over such entrance. <br /> <br />(2) Shopping Center Identification <br />Signs. In addition to the sign face <br />area permitted for each individual <br />establishment, one shopping center sign <br />identifying the name and/or logo of a <br />unified shopping area in the BR <br />Districts may be permitted, subject to <br />review and approval by the Board of <br />Building Standards.
