— PLACED ON 1st READ'-vG 4 Rr_ERRED to the <br />RULES $ ORDINANCES _ommitti -- and LAW DEPT. on <br />6/19/95; PLACED ON 2nd READING on 7/3/95; and <br />AMENDED AT TABLE on 7/17/95. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 50 -95 By: Boscia, Flannery, George, Gibbons, <br />Roth, Seelie, Smith <br />AN ORDINANCE to add new Chapter 1337 of the Building <br />Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood creating <br />a Lakewood Heritage Advisory Board 'to advise City officials, <br />Boards and Commissions, and the community on matters pertaining <br />to historic preservation. <br />WHEREAS, various individuals and groups in the City of <br />Lakewood have expressed an interest in the creation of a Lakewood <br />Heritage Advisory Board to serve in an advisory capacity to <br />educate and assist residents, .various businesses, Boards and <br />Commissions, departments and officials of the City of Lakewood <br />regarding historic preservation; <br />WHEREAS, a one -year study was performed by the Lakewood <br />Landmark Commission, which Commission presented its Findings and <br />Recommendations to City Council in November of 1994; <br />WHEREAS, the Findings and Recommendations to City <br />Council in November of 1994; <br />WHEREAS, the Findings and Recommendations of the <br />Lakewood Landmark Commission were thereafter referred to and <br />reviewed by various Boards and Commissions of the City, and the <br />Lakewood Historical Society, resulting in the unanimous <br />recommendation of the creation of a permanent Board to deal with <br />issues of historic preservation; and <br />WHEREAS, historic preservation is vital to the City of <br />Lakewood's neighborhoods, heritage, property values and its <br />nationally recognized image; now, therefore, <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1. That new Chapter 1337 of the Building Code <br />of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood is hereby <br />added and titled "Lakewood Heritage Advisory Board ". <br />Section 2. That the Lakewood Heritage Advisory Board <br />be and is hereby established to serve in an advisory capacity for <br />the purpose of educating, informing and making recommendations to <br />City officials, departments, Boards and Commissions and the <br />community on matters relating to historic preservation. <br />Section 3. The Lakewood Heritage Advisory Board shall <br />be composed of seven (7) electors of the City to be appointed in <br />the manner hereinafter set forth: (a) two (2) appointments shall <br />be made by the Mayor; (b) two (2) appointments shall be made by <br />City Council; (c) two (2) appointments shall be made by the <br />Lakewood Historical Society; and (d) one (1) appointment by the <br />Lakewood Chamber of Commerce. The terms of said members shall be <br />determined by the Board in accordance with its bylaws, however, <br />no term shall exceed a period of four (4) years and upon <br />expiration of any individual term appointment or re- appointment <br />shall be in accordance with this Section 2. <br />Section 4. That this Board shall be authorized to <br />adopt its own mission statement, bylaws and general rules of <br />operation, which shall be consistent with this Ordinance and all <br />other Ordinances and the Amended Charter of the City of Lakewood <br />and the laws of the State of Ohio. <br />Section 5. The Board shall be authorized to call upon <br />the Department of Planning and Development and the Building <br />Commissioner for assistance in carrying out the purposes set <br />
