ORDINANCE NO. 50 -95 By: Boscia, Flannery, George, Gibbons, Roth, Seelie, Smith AN ORDINANCE to add new Chapter 1337 of the Building Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood creating a Lakewood Heritage Advisory Board 'to advise City officials, Boards and Commissions, and the community on matters pertaining to historic preservation. WHEREAS, various individuals and groups in the City of Lakewood have expressed an interest in the creation of a Lakewood Heritage Advisory Board to serve in an advisory capacity to educate and assist residents, .various businesses, Boards and Commissions, departments and officials of the City of Lakewood regarding historic preservation; WHEREAS, a one -year study was performed by the Lakewood Landmark Commission, which Commission presented its Findings and Recommendations to City Council in November of 1994; WHEREAS, the Findings and Recommendations to City Council in November of 1994; WHEREAS, the Findings and Recommendations of the Lakewood Landmark Commission were thereafter referred to and reviewed by various Boards and Commissions of the City, and the Lakewood Historical Society, resulting in the unanimous recommendation of the creation of a permanent Board to deal with issues of historic preservation; and WHEREAS, historic preservation is vital to the City of Lakewood's neighborhoods, heritage, property values and its nationally recognized image; now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. That new Chapter 1337 of the Building Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood is hereby added and titled "Lakewood Heritage Advisory Board ". Section 2. That the Lakewood Heritage Advisory Board be and is hereby established to serve in an advisory capacity for the purpose of educating, informing and making recommendations to City officials, departments, Boards and Commissions and the community on matters relating to historic preservation. Section 3. The Lakewood Heritage Advisory Board shall be composed of seven (7) electors of the City to be appointed in the manner hereinafter set forth: (a) two (2) appointments shall be made by the Mayor; (b) two (2) appointments shall be made by City Council; (c) two (2) appointments shall be made by the Lakewood Historical Society; and (d) one (1) appointment by the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce. The terms of said members shall be determined by the Board in accordance with its bylaws, however, no term shall exceed a period of four (4) years and upon expiration of any individual term appointment or re- appointment shall be in accordance with this Section 2. Section 4. That this Board shall be authorized to adopt its own mission statement, bylaws and general rules of operation, which shall be consistent with this Ordinance and all other Ordinances and the Amended Charter of the City of Lakewood and the laws of the State of Ohio.
