CabIevision("Cablevision") through August I, 1998 <br /> <br />'WHEREAS, the City's nonexclusive cable television rranchise with Cablevision was <br />previously extended six (6) months pursuant to Ordinance 48-97, and will expire on May 1, <br />1998; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor has appointed a Task Force to work with legal experts retained <br />by tho City to identifY the City's future cable-related needs and interests and to review the <br />performance of Cablevision under the current :fTanchise in order to negotiate a new ftanchise <br />with Cablevision; and <br /> <br />WHE.REAS, the City's Cable Television Task Force is diligently continuing its ruission <br />to facilitate the negotiation of an appropriate franchise agreement for the City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it would be in the best interests ofthis City to extend the term of the original <br />franchise held by Cablevision for an additional three (3) mohths through August I, 1998, or until <br />superseded by the terms of a new ffahcmse agreement, or termination by this Council, whichever <br />comes first, in order to provide additional and necessary time to complete the negotiation process <br />for a new franchise. <br /> <br />NOW, THERFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNClL OF THE CITY OF <br />LAKEWOOD,OmO· <br /> <br />SECTION I This CouuciI finds and determiues that it is necessary and appropriate for <br />the nonexclusive franchise granted to V Cable, LP to construct, operate and maintain a cable <br />television system in the City, be continued under the terms and provisions of the original <br />franchise agreement, as amended, through August I, 1998, or uutil superseded by the terms of <br />the new franchise agreement, or termination by this Council, whichever comes first and that the <br />aforesaid franchise is hereby extended to said period of time. <br /> <br />SECTION 2. The Clerk of Couucil shall and is hereby directed to send it certified copy <br />of this Ordinance to Cablevisionby certified mail upon its passage. <br /> <br />SECTION 3. It is fouud that all formal actions of this Council conceruing and relating to <br />the passage of this ordinance were adopted man open meeting of this Council, and that aU <br />deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such fonnal action were in <br />meetings open to the public, in compliance with the law. <br /> <br />SECTION 4.
