ADING ON 7/20/98. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 35-98 BY: <br /> <br /> AN ORDINANCE to amend Chapter 1306 of Codified Ordinance of the City of <br />Lakewood, the Lakewood Property Maintenance and Safety Code of the Building Code. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Chapter 1306 of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood was <br />passed by Council on April 20, 1998; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Council at that time expressed an interest in continuing its review of <br />Section 1306.29 (el regarding step rails and decided to maintain the language from <br />Section 1306.29 (el without change, and referred the issue to the Housing Committee; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Council at this time desires to amend the ordinance as is set forth <br />herein; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO; <br /> <br />Section I. Paragraph (el of Section 1306.29 (el, now reading as follows: <br /> <br />(el <br /> <br />Every inside and outside stair and every porch and every <br />appurtenance thereto shall be so constructed as to be safe to use <br />and capable of supporting the load that normal use may cause to <br />be placed thereon and shall be maintained in sound condition and <br />good repair. <br /> <br />Shall be amended to read: <br /> <br />(el <br /> <br />Every inside and outside stair and every porch and every <br />appurtenance thereto shall be so constructed as to be safe to use <br />and capable of supporting the load that normal use may cause to <br />be placed thereon and shall be maintained in sounci condition and <br />good repair. All existing exterior stairs with more than three (3) <br />risers, not constructed with side wing walls or other permanent <br />safeguards delineaUng the path of ascent or descent on the stairs, <br />shall be provided with a handrail on at least one side of the stairs <br />which conforms to the existing design of the structure. <br /> <br /> <br />
