law or ordinance; such appointees shall serve until removed by the Mayor or until their <br />respective successors are appointed and qualified. <br /> <br />SECTION 5. SALARY OF THE MAYOR. <br /> <br />The salary of the Mayor shall be established by ordinance, provided that such ordinance must be <br />adopted not less than thirty (30) days prior to the final date fixed by law for the filing of <br />nominating petitions by candidates for the office of Mayor for the ensuing term, and subject to <br />further provisions of this Charter. That salary shall not be increased or decreased during such <br />term, <br /> <br />SECTION 6. GENERAL POWERS AND DUTIES OF MAYOR. <br /> <br />The Mayor shall be the chief conservator of the peace within the City; shall supervise the <br />administration of the affairs of the City; shall see that all ordinances of the City are enforced; <br />shall recommend to the Council for adoption such measures as the Mayor may deem necessary <br />or expedient; shall keep Council advised of the financial condition and future needs of the City; <br />shall prepare and submit to Council such reports as may be required by that body; and shall <br />exercise such powers and perform such duties as are conferred or required by this Charter, by <br />ordinance or resolution of Council, or by general law. <br /> <br />SECTION 7. MAYOR'S INVESTIGATION. <br /> <br />The Mayor may, without notice, cause the affairs of any department or the conduct of any officer <br />or employee to be examined. The Mayor or any person or persons appointed by the Mayor to <br />examine the affairs of any department or the conduct of any officer or employee, shall haxre the <br />same power to compel the attendance of witnesses, and the production of books and papers and <br /> <br /> <br />
