PLEASE SUBSTITUTE ORDINANCE <br />NO. 18-09 PLACED ON 1~ READING & <br />REFERRED TO THE FINANCE <br />COMMITTEE 1/20/09, 2ND READING <br />2/2/09. <br />ORDINANCE N0. 18-09 BY: Antonio, Bullock, Butler, vever, <br />Madigan, Powers, Summers. <br />AN ORDINANCE to take effect immediately provided it received the <br />affirmative vote of at least five (5) members elected to Council otherwise, it shall <br />take effect and be in force after the earliest period allowed by law provide for <br />creating positions and rates of pay for full-time and certain part-time annual <br />salaried employees and hourly rate employees not covered by a collective <br />bargaining agreement in the several departments, divisions and offices of the <br />City of Lakewood, including the Chief of Fire, Chief of Police and Civil Service <br />Commissioners effective January 1, 2009. <br />WHEREAS, The Minimum Wage law for the State of Ohio requires <br />employers to compensate employees at a minimum wage; and <br />WHEREAS, the Police and Fire ChieYs salary grade increased by a margin <br />of 2.5%; and <br />WHEREAS, it is necessary to update the salary ordinance to provide for <br />those changes; and <br />WHEREAS, many positions have been abolished and need to be removed <br />for the list of positions; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council by a vote of at least five members elected thereto <br />determines that this ordinance is an emergency measure, and that this ordinance <br />shall take effect at the earliest date possible as set forth in ARTICLE III, <br />SECTIONS 10 and 12 of the SECOND AMENDED CHARTER OF THE CITY OF <br />LAKEWOOD, and that it is necessary to provide for the usual daily operation of <br />the City in that in the interest of public, service, welfare and safety in that these <br />changes took effect by virtue of the approval of the union agreement by Council <br />on new date. Now, therefore, <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />
