than two and one-half feet wide laid lengthwise to the street, and any length <br />breadthwise to the street shall be of the full width of the walk, unless such walk <br />exceeds six feet in width. <br />903.05 CONCRETE SIDEWALK SPECIFICATIONS. <br />All concrete sidewalks shall be laid under the following specifications: <br />Concrete shall. be continuously deposited between bulkheads to a uniform <br />thickness of four inches to the full depth and width of the walk. The concrete, after <br />being placed, shall be thoroughly compacted and brought to the proper pitch and grade <br />with a template or straight edge. Immediately prior to the finishing of the surface, the <br />walk shall be cut into slabs not longer than six feet on any one side with one-half inch <br />expansion joints at intervals not to exceed thirty feet. The finish of the walk shall <br />immediately follow the placing and compacting of the concrete. The concrete shall have <br />a minimum of six sacks of cement per cubic yard. Unless otherwise ordered, the finish <br />shall be the. same as that produced with wood floats. After the concrete has been <br />proper)y placed and finished as heretofore specific the surface of the concrete shall be <br />covered with waterproof membrane as soon as the concrete has hardened sufficiently <br />to prevent the material from excessively marring the surface. The concrete shall be <br />protected to insure that the concrete temperatures will not go below forty degrees <br />Fahrenheit. The contractor shall erect suitable barricades and take adequate <br />precautions to keep all traffic or other operations off the newly-laid walks for a period of <br />not less than forty-eight hours from the completion of construction. No walks will be <br />accepted where foot marks, depressions or other irregularities exist. <br />903.051 PRECAST CONCRETE SIDEWALK SPECIFICATIONS. <br />All precast concrete sidewalks shall be laid under the following specifications: <br />(a) Precast concrete unit pavers shall be at least two and three-eighths inches <br />thick, have a minimum compressive strenggth of eight-thousand p.s.i. and <br />a water absorption rate of five percent ~%) or less; top edges of the <br />pavers shall be chamfered. All pavers shat be manufactured with cement, <br />conforming to ASTM C-150 and aggregates conforming to ASTM C-33. <br />(b) All precast concrete pavers shall be laid on a six-inch thick compacted <br />sub-base and a one and one-half to two and one-half inch thick leveling <br />base. The compacted base shall be in accordance with manufacturer's <br />specifications or shall be graded, crushed limestone, crushed stone or <br />crushed gravel consisting of particles zero to three-quarter inches in size. <br />This material shalt be one hundred percent (100%) crushed with fine or <br />dense graded aggregate. Leveling base material shall be in accordance <br />with manufacturer's specifications or shall be coarse, graded concrete <br />sand, conforming to ASTM C-33 for fine aggregates; mason sand shall not <br />be used. The leveling. base shall be uncompacted and screeded. <br />(c) Pavers shall be vibrated into the leveling base with a plate type soil <br />compactor in three or more passes until uniformly level. The first pass <br />shall be made with the paver Ioints open; the remaining passes shall be <br />accompanied by simultaneous brushing of concrete sand into the joints, <br />903.06 DRIVEWAYS. <br />On driveways, the specifications for concrete sidewalks shall be adhered to, <br />except that in all concrete driveways there must be at least six inches in thickness of <br />concrete. In addition, all driveways must be constructed to the satisfaction of the City <br />Engineer, who is hereby given discretion where emergencies require. <br />903.07 NONCONFORMING SIDEWALKS. <br />With respect to sidewalks heretofore laid within the City not in conformity with <br />the requirements of this chapter, there is reserved to the City such rights as are granted <br />to the City by the statutes of the State to require such walks to be relaid or repaired in <br />conformity with the provisions of this chapter. <br />903.08 CUTTING OR LOWERING CURBS; FEES. <br />Excepting the State of Ohio, Cuyahoga County or a contractor, pursuant to <br />agreement with the City no person shall cut or lower curbs within the City other than <br />the Division of Streets, Sewers and Sidewalks. Upon application therefor, to ether with <br />a deposit to cover the estimated cost, and determination by the Superintendent of such <br />Division that such. cutting or lowering of curbs as applied for will not interfere with the <br />roper use of the street, the Division of Streets, Sewers and Sidewalks shall cut or <br />Power curbs and charge therefor as follows: <br />(a) For cutting a curb, the charge shall be two dollars ($2.00) per lineal foot <br />with a minimum charge of five dollars ($5.00) under each application; <br />(b) For lowering a curb, the charges shalt be the actual cost. to the City and <br />the minimum deposit required shall be three dollars ($3.00) per lineal foot <br />under each application. Costs shall be computed at the rate of wages and <br />truck hire as Fixed by ordinances at the time the work is done. <br />Deposits made in excess of actual cost as hereinbefore provided shall be <br />refunded by the City to the depositor thereof upon completion and determination of the <br />
