First reading and referred to Planning <br />Commission and COW 9/9/09; second reading <br />9/21/09; Planning Commission Report/ <br />Recommendation for Adoption 11/16/09; <br />referred from COW 12/21/09; adopted <br />12/21/09. <br />ORDINANCE N0. 62-09 BY: Antonio, Bullock, Butler, <br />Dever, Madigan, Powers, Summers <br />AN ORDINANCE to amend Chapter 1134, Historic Preservation Districts (HPD) <br />and Historic Properties (HP), of the Zoning Code of the Codified Ordinances of the City <br />of Lakewood to expand the scope of the chapter to include designation of public interior <br />portions of buildings with unique historical value. <br />WHEREAS, the amendments to the Zoning Code promote the development and <br />protection of existing buildings and structures throughout the City of unique historical <br />significance, thereby protecting property values; and <br />WHEREAS, the amendments to the Zoning Code encourage the orderly <br />development and retention of buildings and structure in the City in a manner consistent <br />with the Community Vision; and <br />WHEREAS, Article 18, Section 3 of the Constitution of the State of Ohio permits <br />municipalities to exercise all powers of local self-government and to adopt and enforce <br />within their limits such local police, sanitary and other similar regulations as are not in <br />conflict with general laws; now, therefore, <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1. That Chapter 1134, Historic Preservation Districts (HPD) and <br />Historic Properties (HP), of the Zoning Code of Codified Ordinances of the City of <br />Lakewood, currently reading as follows: <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION DISTRICTS (IIPD) <br />AND HISTORIC PROPERTIES (HP) <br />1134.01 PURPOSE <br />(a) The purpose of this Chapter is fo promote the health, safety and welfare <br />of the citizens of the City by providing for the identification, protection, <br />enhancement, perpetuation and use of areas, places, buildings, <br />structures, works of art and other objects having a special historical, <br />community or aesthetic interest or value, so that the following <br />objectives are reached: <br />(1) To maintain and enhance the distinctive and/or aesthetic <br />chazacter, diversity and interest of the City. <br />(2) To safeguard the azchitectural integrity of the City's <br />designated Historic Preservation Districts (HPD) and Historic <br />Properties (HP). <br />
