PLACED ON <br />1ST READING &REFERRED TO THE COMMITTEE OF THE <br />WHOLE 12/20/10, 2ND READING 1/3/11. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 109-10 BY: Bullock, Butler, Suris, Nowlin, <br />Madigan, Smith. <br />AN ORDINANCE to establish the salary of the mayor pursuant to Article II, Sec- <br />tion 5 of the Second Amended Charter of the City of Lakewood, for the purpose of modi- <br />fying the recommendations of the Civil Service Commission dated December 20, 2010. <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Article XI, .Section 7 of the Charter, the Civil Service <br />Commission has presented its recommendations to City Council recommending that the <br />salary of the office of Mayor be increased to the sum of One Hundred Thousand Dollars <br />($100,000.00) per year; and <br />WHEREAS; pursuant to Article XI, Section 7 of the Charter, the Civil Service <br />Commission has presented its recommendations to City Council recommending that the <br />salary of the office of each Councilmember be increased to the sum of Eleven Thousand <br />Dollars ($11,000.00) per year, plus an optional health-care benefits package not to exceed <br />Three Thousand, Three Hundred Dollars ($3,300.00) per year; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Article II, Section 5 and Article III, Section 3 of the Sec- <br />ond Amended Charter of the City of Lakewood, City Council shall accept, reject or mod- <br />ify the recommendations of the Civil Service Commission as they relate to the salary of <br />the offices of Mayor and Councilmember; and <br />WHEREAS, the Commission found that Lakewood's Mayor and Councilmem- <br />bers have been consistently paid less than their peers in cities with similar demographics. <br />and fiscal resources, and the data support such a finding; and <br />WHEREAS, the salaries for Mayor and Councilmembers have not been increased <br />in decades; and <br />WHEREAS, in its deliberations related to the foregoing this Council has identi- <br />fied aneed to increase the salary of the office of Mayor, although incrementally in order <br />to minimize the impact on future budgets; and <br />WHEREAS, increasing the salary of the office of Mayor to be commensurate <br />with those who serve municipalities with comparable annual budgets and staffing levels <br />is important to attract excellent candidates for these offices well into the future; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1. That pursuant to Article II, Section 5 of the Second Amended <br />Charter of the City of Lakewood, the salary of the office of Mayor of Lakewood is here- <br />by increased to the sum of Ninety Thousand Dollars ($90,000.00) per year, effective Jan- <br />uary 1, 2012, and the salary of the office of Mayor of Lakewood is hereby increased to <br />
