Substituted October 18, 2010. <br />PLACED ON 1ST READING & REFERRED TO THE ECONOMIC <br />DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE 7/6/10 DEFERRED 7/19/10., 2ND READING 9/20/10, <br />DEFERRED 10/4/10. <br />Ordinance No. 53-10 By: Antonio, Bullock, Butler, Madigan, <br />Powers, Smith, Summers. <br />An Ordinance to amend Chapter 1329, Signs of the Codified Ordinances of the <br />City of Lakewood for the purpose of regulating signs, including provisions to control the <br />type, design, size, location, illumination and maintenance thereof, within the City of <br />Lakewood. <br />Whereas, effective signage is critical to supporting local businesses and <br />promoting a vibrant commercial district; and <br />Whereas, assisting business growth and improvement by simplifying the review <br />and permit process to reduce the burden on growing businesses and entrepreneurs is a <br />priority for the City; and <br />Whereas, the safety of residents, patrons, motorists and pedestrians can be <br />impacted by signage; and <br />Whereas, establishing written. expectations for the business community and the <br />Sign Review Board asto the types, style, quality and quantity of sign options that are <br />complementary to Lakewood's is critical to maintaining community identity. Now <br />therefore, <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1. That Chapter 1329, Signs, of the. Codified Ordinances of the City of <br />Lakewood, currently reading as follows: <br />1329.01 INTENT <br />(a) Sign regulations, including provisions to control the type, design, size, location, <br />illumination and maintenance thereof, are established in order to achieve, among <br />others, the following purposes: <br />(1) To promote attractive and maintain high value residential districts by permitting <br />only nameplates, bulletin boards and signs related to the develop, rental or sale <br />of properties in such districts; <br />(2) To provide reasonable, yet appropriate, conditions for identifying and advertising <br />goods sold or services rendered in business districts by relating the size, type <br />and design of signs to the type and size of establishments; <br />(3) To provide for appropriate signs for the identification and encouragement of <br />industrial development; <br />Page 1 of 28 <br />
