Summers. <br />AN ORDINANCE to amend sections within Chapter 516, Fair Housing, of <br />the Lakewood Codified Ordinances to include the prohibition of intimidation <br />based on a person's gender, gender identity or expression. <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood has a proud and noted history of <br />welcoming people of diverse backgrounds and life experiences to live, work, play <br />and raise families, free from the threat of discrimination and intimidation; and <br />WHEREAS, earlier this year the City administration worked to update the <br />internal Human Resources Policy and Procedure Manual, for the purpose of <br />reflecting a more inclusive prohibition against certain discriminatory acts against <br />employees; and <br />WHEREAS, it is necessary and appropriate for the City's codified <br />ordinances to be in alignment with administrative code and reflective of the City's <br />inclusiveness, as well as more modern language; and <br />WHEREAS, Chapter 516, Fair Housing, thus stands to be updated with <br />respect to its prohibitions .against discrimination based on a person's gender, <br />gender identity and expression; and <br />WHEREAS, Article 18, Section 3 of the Constitution of the State of Ohio <br />permits municipalities to exercise all powers of local self-government and Eo <br />adopt and enforce within their limits such local police, sanitary and other similar <br />regulations as are not in conflict with general laws; now, therefore, <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1. That Section 516.01, Policy, of the Lakewood Codified <br />Ordinances, currently reading as follows: <br />516.01 POLICY. <br />It is hereby designated to be the continuing policy of the City to do all things <br />necessary and proper to secure for all citizens their right to equal housing opportunities <br />
