PLACED ON 1ST READING & REFERRED TO THE <br />HOUSING COMMITTEE 12/19/11. <br />PLACED ON 2ND READING 1/3/7.2.. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 66-1i BY: Anderson, Bullock, Juris, Madigan, <br />Nowlin, Powers, Smith. <br />AN ORDINANCE amending Chapter 1302, Ohio Basic Building Code, to update its <br />language and references to be consistent with the City of Lakewood's state certification and <br />current Ohio law. <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood is certified to enforce the Ohio Building Code; and <br />WHEREAS, the language and references in the codified ordinances are outdated such <br />that they stand to be updated; and <br />WHEREAS, the City desires to have clear, consistent and concise ordinances; and <br />WHEREAS, the City may by its legislation exercise all powers of local self-government <br />and adopt and enforce within its limits such local police, sanitary and similar regulations as are <br />not in conflict with general laws; now, therefore <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: <br />Section 1. Chapter 1302, Ohio Basic Building Code, currently reading as follows: <br />CHAPTER 1302 <br />Ohio Basic Building Code <br />1302.01 1995 EDITION ADOPTED. <br />Pursuant to Ohio R.C. 731.231, there is hereby adopted by and for the <br />Municipality the Ohio Basic Building Code (OBBC), behrg particularly the <br />1995 edition thereof, as adopted by the Ohio Board of Building Standards, <br />Department of Industrial Relations, and as published in Division 4101:2 of the <br />Ohio Administrative Code (OAC), save and except such portions thereof as may <br />be hereinafter amended or deleted. <br />1302.02 PURPOSE. <br />The purpose of the Ohio Basic Building Code as adopted herein is <br />(a) To provide uniform standards and requirements for the erection, <br />construction, repair, alteration and mahrtenance of buildings, including <br />construction of industrialized units. Such standards shall relate to the <br />conservation of energy, safety and sanitation of buildurgs for their hrtended use <br />and occupancy. <br />(b) Formulate such standards and requirements, so far as is practicable, in <br />terms of performance objectives, so as to make adequate performance for the <br />use intended Hre test of acceptability. <br />
