PLACED ON 1ST READING & REFERRED TO THE <br />PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE 11/3/14. <br />PLACED ON 2ND READING 11/17/14. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 37 -14 BY: Anderson, Bullock, Marx, O'Leary. <br />AN ORDINANCE amending Section 506.04 of the Codified Ordinances, Excep- <br />tion, Registration and Fee, for the purpose of eliminating the fees associated with the an- <br />nual renewal of registrations of dangerous animals. <br />WHEREAS, Section 506.04 of the Codified Ordinances, Dangerous and Vicious <br />Animals, requires the annual renewal of registrations of dangerous animals; and <br />WHEREAS, Section 506.04 requires the payment of an annual registration fee in <br />addition to the initial fee; and <br />WHEREAS, Council and the Administration have determined the fee is unneces- <br />sary for the purpose of preserving the peace and protecting the public in the City, thus <br />warranting a change in the ordinance; and <br />WHEREAS, the annual registration of dangerous animals shall nevertheless con- <br />tinue; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to the Constitution of the State of Ohio and the Ohio Re- <br />vised Code, municipalities have the power to enact laws that are for the health, safety, <br />welfare, comfort and peace of the citizens of the municipality; now, therefore <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: <br />Section 1. That Section 506.04 of the Codified Ordinances, Exception, Registra- <br />tion and Fee, currently reading as follows: <br />506.04 EXCEPTION, REGISTRATION AND FEE. <br />(a) Any owner of a dangerous animal as defined in Section 506.03 <br />on the effective date of this section who intends to keep such <br />dangerous animal within the City shall have ninety days from <br />the effective date of this section, or, on a showing of good <br />cause for having failed to adhere to the provisions hereof with- <br />in ninety days of the effective date of this section, thirty days <br />from the date the owner is notified of his or her noncompli- <br />ance, to register such dangerous animal with the Director of <br />Public Safety or his or her designee. The fee for such registra- <br />tion shall be fifty dollars ($50.00). Registration shall take <br />place annually thereafter. Registration shall include providing <br />the name and contact information of the owner of the danger- <br />
