RESOLUTION NOo 3702 BY: <br /> <br />Messrs. Chockley, Fahrenbach, <br /> Fairgrieve, Gaydos, <br /> Gottermeyer, Quinn, <br /> Ward° <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION commending the heroic and valiant efforts of the <br />51st and 52nd Mobile Support Groups of the Ohio Civil Defense Corps, <br />from Willoughby, Painesville, Sandusky, Upper Sandusky, Bedford, <br />and Fostoria, who came in as volunteers with power equipment and who <br />worked around the clock~ the Civil Defense Auxiliary Police, who did <br />likewise and the Civil Defense Air Raid Wardens who worked on send- <br />ing the motoring public home after the tornado alert on the following <br />day, the Salvation Army, who served food and hot drinks to the work- <br />ers, the American National Red Cross, Cleveland and Lakewood branch~s, <br />who also served food and hot drinks and who have offered gifts of <br />funds to those who have no private sources of help, the Ohio National <br />Guard who performed magnificently under trying conditions, the Cleve- <br />land Electric Illuminating Company, the Ohio Bell Telephone Company <br />and the East Ohio Gas Company for their prompt efforts in restoring <br />service to the public, the Lakewood Board of Education, Lakewood <br />City Hospital, all departments of the City of Lakewood and the Ser- <br />vice Departments of Westlake, the Auxiliary Police and Auxiliary <br />Fire from Westlake, North 01msted and Fairview Park and to the house- <br />holders who served food to the people above mentioned. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, On the night of May 12, 1956, the City of Lakewood, <br />Ohio, was struck by a violent storm, as a result of which two persons <br />lost their lives, many were injured and much property was destroyed; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The scope of the disaster was of such great magni- <br />tude that the city personnel and facilities were inadequate to cope <br />with the havoc and destruction following in the wake of such storm;i <br />and <br /> <br /> ~EREAS, Because of the capable and effective aid and assist- <br />ance given by those named above, the loss of life, destruction of <br />property and inconvenience of the general public was kept at a min- <br />imum; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, We wish to express our most sincere appreciation to <br />all those named in the first paragraph hereof, who labored long and <br />hard for the preservation of life, health and property of our citi- <br />zens, now, therefore be it <br /> <br /> RESOLVED that as evidence of the sincere debt of gratitude <br />which every citizen of the City of Lakewood owes to those men- <br />tioned above, we adopt this resolution and cause a copy thereof to <br />be spread upon the minutes of this meeting, and be it further <br /> <br /> RESOLVED that the Clerk of Council transmit an authenticated <br />copy of this resolution to the 51st and 52nd Mobile Support groups <br />of the Ohio Civil Defense Corps from Willoughby, Painesville, <br />Sandusky, Upper Sandusky, Bedford and Fo~storia, the Civil Defense <br />Auxiliary Police, the Civil Defense Air Raid Wardens, the Salvation <br />Army, the American National Red Cross, Cleveland and Lakewood Branches, <br />the Ohio National Guard, the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company, <br />the Ohio Bell Telephone Company, the East Ohio Gas Company, the <br />Lakewood Board of Education, Lakewood City Nospital, all departments <br /> <br /> <br />
