RESOLUTION NO. 3709 BY Messrs. <br /> <br />Chockley, Fahrenbach, <br />Fairgrieve, Gaydos, <br />Gottermeyer, Quinn, <br />Ward° <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION expressing the appreciation of the City of <br />Lakewood to the Governor of the State of Ohio, Frank Jo Lausche, for <br />the splendid cooperation extended to its officials during the recent <br />major disaster. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, On the.night of May 12, 1956, the City of Lakewood, <br />Ohio, was struck by a vmolent storm as a result of which two per- <br />sons lost their lives, many were injured and much property was de- <br />stroyed; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The scope of the disaster was of such great magni- <br />tude that the city personnel and facilities were inadequate to cope <br />with the havoc and destruction following in the wake of such storm; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Frank Po Celeste requested the Honorable <br />Frank J. Lausche to declare the city a major disaster area and to <br />certify the need for financial assistance to the President of the <br />United States; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The Governor proceeded with dispatch in forwarding <br />such request to our President, Dwight Do Eisemhower and also in <br />mobilizing the Ohio National Guard and dispatching such units to our <br />grief-stricken area; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The City of Lakewood is deeply appreciative of the <br />Governor,s efforts in our behalf, now, therefore be it <br /> <br /> RESOLVED that the members of the City Council adopt this <br />resolution as an expression of appreciation to the Governor of the <br />State of Ohio, Frank J. Lausche, for his aid and assistance to our <br />community in its time of need; and be it further <br /> <br /> RESOLVED that the Clerk of Council transmit an authenti- <br />cated copy of this resolution to the Governor of the State of Ohio, <br />Frank J.
