RE$OLUTION NO. 379~ <br /> <br />BYi Neesrs. ~aydoe, ~ottermeyer, <br /> ; Quinn, Ward, <br /> Chockiey, Fahrenbach. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION dedicated to action recogrntzinE the impact and set. <br />iousness of the traffic problem on Brookpark Road in the southwest sec- <br />tion of Cuyahoga County, ~ud endorsing the Outer belt south and reqUest- <br />ing the Ohio State Highway Department to take necessary steps toward <br /> <br />its development, <br /> <br /> I~HEREAS, This Council recognizes the impact and seriousness of <br />the traffic problem nowexisting on BrookparkRoad, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Brookpark Road is an arterial etate highway which ex- <br />tensively serves vehicular traffic emanating from the industrial plante <br /> <br />which adjoin it, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Traffic congestion of that thoroughfare b~s reached <br />such proportions aa to discourage and deter the further develo, pmen.t _of <br />vacant lands for industrial purposes thereby hampering the in us <br /> dUStrial <br />growth of this community, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, This impediment to the future growth of industry will, <br />and does, have a marked effect upon the general economy of metropolitan <br />Cleveland, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Various g~vernmental and civic lalits, being cognizant <br />of this fact, have conducted exhaustive studies in an effort to allevi- <br />ate the acuteness of the problem, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Said studies have substantially determined the location <br />of a freeway, known as the Outer Belt South, ~hich would solve the <br />problem and allow a normal industrial and commercial growth for the ben- <br />efit of the entire metropolitan area, and <br /> <br /> ~EREA$, Any delay to rectify the condition would be economically <br />and sociologically unsound, now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ~Ob-NOIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br />OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1, That this Council manifest its endorsement of the <br />Outer Belt South by lending its aid and support to its development. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That this Council enlist the aid of all citizens, <br />in particular, industrialists and civic leaders, to strive for the real- <br />ization of that freeway. <br /> <br /> Section ~. That the proper authorities be requested to prepare <br />precise drawings for the purpose of obtaining necessary rights of way <br />since any further delay will result in mounting costs for said rights of <br />way. <br /> <br /> Section ~. That the Ohio State Highway Department, and the Fed- <br /> eral Bureau of Roads be requested and urged to include in the national <br /> system of interstate highways that portion of Brookpark Road extending <br /> west from Ridge Road to the Cleveland Hopkins Airport. <br /> <br /> Section ~. That the Clerk of Council be, and he is hereby, di- <br /> rected to transmit certified copies of this resolution to the govern- <br /> mental authorities concerned so that the terms of this resolution shall <br />to them become known. <br />Adopted: ~¥ 20. 1957 .
