<br /> WHEREAS, William A. Stinchcomb has completed fifty-eight years of
<br />loyal and devoted public service to his community, beginning at the end
<br />of the nineteenth century as a surveyor's chainman in the Engineering
<br />Department of the City of Cleveland, and continued later as 9hief Engineer
<br />of Parks, in charge of bridges and docks of Such City, and since 1916 has
<br />been engaged in guiding the Metropolitan Park System from an idea into a
<br />fully developed network of recreational facilities, and
<br />
<br /> ~qEREAS, William A. Stinchcomb has devoted his talents to a variety
<br />of interests too numerous to mentiOn, among them being the founding of the
<br />Juvenile Court, The Brookside Zoo and being in the forefront in the ad-
<br />vocating of the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Lakefront Development Plan in
<br />Cleveland, anR is now vitally interested in bringing into reality the high-
<br />way in Lake Erie, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, William A. Stinchcomb established the development of the
<br />Metropolitan Park System as his number one objective in life, and the fruit
<br />of his labors in this connection is apparent by the expansion of such
<br />system to the degree that it provides a much sought haven for millions of
<br />urban dwellers throughout the entire year, and affords them a variety of
<br />recreational facilities, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Being a man of humble demeanor, seeking more the develop-
<br />ment of benefits for his fellow man and for his community, rather than
<br />personal acclaim, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, William A. Stinchcomb has by his lifelong devotion to duty,
<br />his leadership, his vision, his integrity, his loyalty and his ability,
<br />made our community a finer place in which to live, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, After over a half century of outstanding public service,
<br /> William A. Stinchcomb decided to retire as Director of the Cleveland
<br /> Metropolitan Park System, now, therefore,
<br />
<br /> BE IT RESOLVED, That this Council express to William A. Stinchcomb
<br /> its sincere appreciation for his long years of magnificent service to this
<br /> community, and convey to him, on behalf of the City of Lakewood and its
<br /> citizens, their best wishes for his continued good health and happiness
<br /> during a richly deserved retirement; and that we adopt this resolution by
<br /> a rising vote and cause a copy thereof to be spread upon the minutes of
<br /> this meeting.

<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Clerk of Council be and he is hereb]
<br /> directed to transmit a duly authenticated copy of this resolution to Mx.
