<br />A RESOLUTION of appreciation to Mr. Russell Southack.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, The Council has~J~een apprised that Mr. Russel Southack
<br />will officially commence his retirement on March l, 1961, and,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Mr. Southack was appointed as a laborer in the Divi-
<br />sion of Parks in 1924 and by reason of his untiring effort and de-
<br />voted service, he was elevated to the position of Superintendent
<br />of Parks in 1947, and,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, A long-time proponent of more and better recreation
<br />areas for the citizens of Lakewood, Mr. Southack was instrumental
<br />in establishing the Cove Avenue Playground, Kauffman Park and
<br />Bowling on the Green in the Lakewood Park as well as beautifying
<br />and extending LakeWood Park and other recreational areas, and,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, One of the most notable accomplishments of Mr.
<br />Southack was his success in preserving the shade trees on Clifton
<br />Boulevard when that street was widened some years ago, after many
<br />experts had predicted the death of those beautiful shade trees
<br />which have been noted throughout this section of the country, and,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, A member of the Lakewood Christian ChUrch, Mr.
<br />Southack was active in many civic and religious organizations in-
<br />cluding membership in the Lakewood Masonic Lodge, the Lakewood
<br />Kiwanis Club, the Ohio Parks Association, and the Ohio Forestry
<br />Associa~i; and,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Respected and loved by all of his fellow employees
<br />in the City Hall, Mr. Southack's retirement will leave a void
<br />which will be difficult to overcome, and,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, This Council wishes to express its deep appreciation
<br />for the 96 ~ears of service to the City of Lakewood by Mr. Russell
<br />Southack, now, therefore,
<br />
<br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE C0~CIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE
<br />OF OHIO~
<br />
<br /> Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lakewood, on be-
<br />half of its individual members, the administration, and all of the
<br />citizens of the City of Lakewood hereby expresses its appreciation
<br />to Mr. Russell Southack for his untiring and devoted service and
<br />wishes him many years of happiness and prosperity in his retire-
<br />ment.
<br />
<br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and he is hereby re-
<br />quested and directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr.
<br />amd Mrs. Russell Southack, 1576 Blossom Park, Lakewood, Ohio.
<br />
<br /> Section 3. That this resolution shall take effect and be in
<br />force immediately upon its adoption and approval by the Mayor.
