RESOLUTION NO. 4639 BY: Mz~srs. Gaydos, Graber, Huffman, <br /> Kslley, Usher, Ward, Wendting <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION expressing the sympathy of the Council and the <br />Administration of the City of Lakewood to the family of the late <br />Gerald J. Winch, Captain, U. S. Army. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The Council of the City of Lakewoed desires to honor <br />the memory of our brave young men serving in Vietnam who have unselfishly <br />sacrificed their lives for the freedom of mankind, and whose passing <br />should not go unnoticed by the residents of our community; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Gerald J. Winch W~s a resident of the City of Lakewoed~ <br />having attended St. Cyril and Method~us School, and having graduated <br />from St. Ignatius High School in 1999; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Gerald J. Winch had distinguished himself as CO-Student <br />Director of the Scholarship Drive at St. Ignatius, was active in Harlequins <br />Production, was a member of the Christian Action Movement; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Gerald J. Winch was graduated from John CarrOll University <br /> as a distinguished military graduate in 1963. While at John Carroll he was <br /> active in Company H-iO~ National Honor Society of Pershing Rifles, and <br /> served as commander of Company M-i~ Pershing Rifles; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Gerald J. Winch attended Infantry School at Port <br /> Benning, Georgia, a~d subsequently Served his first tour of duty in Vietnam <br /> from September 1965 tO September 19~61 Upon retuCning from this tour he <br /> served as an instruetor at the Army Ranger School at Fort Benning; and, <br /> WHEREAS, At the age of 26, during his second tour of duty in <br /> Vietnam, Gerald J. Winch was killed in action on Fmreh 15, 1968; now; <br /> therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br /> OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this entire Council and the Administration honors <br /> the memory of Gerald J. Winch and extends deepest sympathy to his wife, <br /> Jeanne, and their children, Jill Marie and Jacqueline, living at Fort <br /> Benntng, Georgia, and to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Winch of 2099 <br /> Elbur Avenue, Lake~'ood. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby auth- <br /> orized and directed to present a certified copy of this resolution to the <br /> family of Gerald J.
