RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />4642 BY: Messrs. Ward, Wendling, Gaydos, <br /> Graber, Huffman, Kelley, Usher <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION expressing the sympathy of the Council and the <br />Administration of the City of Lakewood to the family of the late <br />John M. Zehnder, Specialist E4, U. S. Army. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The Council of the City of Lakawood d~esires to honor <br />the memory of our brave young men serving in Vietnam who have unselfishly <br />sacrificed their lives for the freedom of mankind, and whose passing <br />should not go unnoticed by the residents of our community; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, John M. Zehnder, a resident of the City of Lakewood, <br />attended Grant School and then attended Lakewood Lutheran School, and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, John M. Zehnder was graduated from Lutheran High <br />School West~ where~ during his junior and senior years he played defensive <br />middle guard for the school football team, and was a member of the <br />Letterman's Club; and~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, John M. Zehnder enlisted in the Army immediately after <br />his graduation from high school. While stationed in Anchorage, Alaska <br />he was selected for the honor of 5th Battalion Solider of the Month for <br />the month of May~ 1967, and~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, On September 28, 1967, John M. Zehnder, age 19, was <br />killed in action after euccessfuly breaking up an enemy assault near <br />Chu Lai and while attempting to reach a wounded comrade, and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, John M. Zehnder was awarded the Bronze Star Medal <br />First Oak Leaf Cluster for his outstanding meritorious service, now, <br />therefore: <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE <br />OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this entire Council and the Administration <br />honors the memory of John M. Zehnder, and extends deepest sympathy to <br />his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Zehnder and brothers and sisters, all <br />of whom reside at 1346 Belle Avenue. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be, and she is hereby <br />authorized and directed to present a certified copy of this resolution <br />to the family of John M. Zehnder, amd that a copy of this resolution <br />be spread upon the minutes of this meeting. <br /> <br />Adopted: T,,~ 1~, 1968 <br /> <br /> Robert E.
