RESOLUTION NO. 4662 BY: Messrs. Gaydos, Graber, <br /> Huffman, Kelley, Usher, <br /> Wendling <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION in support of legislation to limit the length of <br />railroad trains operating in and through the State of Ohio. <br /> <br />WHEP~AS, there are no regulations presently in effect in the <br />State of Ohio limiting the length of railroad trains, and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is currently the policy of many railroads to <br />reduce the number of employees necessary to operate the rail- <br />roads by increasing the length of trains and thereby reducing <br />the number of trains operating, and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, many railroad yards and sidings located in cities and <br />villages throughout Ohio were constructed to accommodate trains <br />of mu=h shorter length than those being operated today, and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, blockages at railroad crossings caused by trains of <br />great length delay emergency vehicles for critical periods of <br />time and seriously inconvenience school children~ local employees <br />and the motoring public, thereby threatening the safety and <br />welfare of countless Ohio citizens, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the cities and villages in Ohio are powerless to remedy <br />this situation due to a lack of proper State and Federal legis- <br />lation, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this body opposes subjecting the safety and welfare of <br />Ohio citizens to railroad policies motivated by a desire to <br />increase profits; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE tT RESOLVED BY T}~ COUNCIL OF T}]E CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br />OHIO: <br /> <br />Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lakewood strongly urges <br />and supportsthe introduction and passage of legislation in the Ohio <br />General Assembly designed to limit and restrict the length of <br />railroad trains operating in and through the State of Ohio, and <br />that said legislation create a reasonable balance between the <br />financial interests of the railroads and the health, safety and <br />welfare of the citizens of Ohio <br /> <br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby <br />authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this <br />resolution to the Ohio General Assembly. <br /> <br />Adopted: October 7~ 1968 ...... <br /> <br />Robert E.
