RESOLUTION NO. 4865 <br /> <br />BY: Messrs. McBride, Usher, Wendling, <br /> Brockman, Graber, Kelley~ Magnotto <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION expressing the opposition of the Council of the City of Lakewood for <br />and on behalf of the citizens of Lakewood, Ohio to the closing of the Lakewood <br />Academic Center st Lakewood High School by Cleveland State University. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of Cleveland State University voted to terminate <br />the operation of its academic centers including the Lakewood Academic Center <br />at Lakewood High School upon the completion of the spring quarter 1971 but <br />extended said cl?sing to the completion of the spring quarter, 1972, end <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Lekewood Board of Education has now been advised by Cleveland State <br />University that it clefinitely will not require the physical facilities at <br />Lakewood High School after June, 1972, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the termination of 2~his facility will create an excessive inconvenience <br />and hardship for the many students residing in Lakewood and its surrounding <br />communities now attending the Lakewood Academic Center, end <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Lakewood Academic Center, since its inception, has provided sub- <br />stantial benefit to the City of Lakewood and its surrounding communities in that <br />said fecility has made it possible and convenient for citizens of this area <br />to further their education and academic pursuits, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, tho Lakewood Academic Center enhances the prestige and academic standing <br />of this community, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is the wish and desire of this Council to do all in its power to <br />prevent the closing of this local center of advanced learning, now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br />Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lakewood, for and on behalf of the <br />citizens of Lakewood, Ohio, continues to oppose the closing of the Lakewood <br />Academic Center at Lakewood High School and strongly urges nhe Board of Trustees <br />of Cleveland State University to reconsider its decision with regard thereto. <br /> <br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby euthorized and <br />directed to forwa~'d a certified copy of this resolution to the Governor of <br />the State of Ohio, John J. Gilligan, The Board of Trustees of Cleveland State <br />University, and John D. Millett, chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, and <br />to any other individuals and/or groups who may have a determinating voice in <br />this matter. <br /> <br />Adopted: <br /> <br />P~r/es ' dent <br /> <br />Clerk <br /> <br />M*yor <br /> <br /> <br />
