RE~OLUTION NO. <br /> <br />4902 <br /> <br />BY: Messrs. Graber, Magnotto, McBride <br /> Usher, Wendling, Brockman,~erner <br /> <br /> A RESOLI~ION to commend Lakewood Firefighter Gerald O. Suttmiller for <br />having been selected as the fourteenth winner of the Benjamin Franklin Fire <br />Service Award for heroism. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Gerald Oo Suttmiller is a Lakewood Firefighter presently <br />assigned to the Hook and Ladder Company, having been appointed to the Division of <br />Fire of the City of Lakewood on the 7th day of June, 1966, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS,'on September 18, 1972 Gerald O~ Suttmiller volunteered to be <br />lowered over a 75 foot vertical cliff at the end of Webb Road to rescue four <br />children who had been trapped by heavy waves in a small cove at the edge of <br />Lake Erie, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, such actions on the part of Gerald O. Suttmiller in success- <br />fully completing such heroic rescue were performed at great risk to his own life <br />and safety and were above and beyond the ordinary call of duty, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, for such heroism Gerald O. Suttmiller was selected as the <br />fourteenth winner of the Benjamin Franklin Fire Service Award for heroism, having <br />been selected from nearly ninety heroes nominated by Fire Chiefs throughout the <br />world, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, such acts of heroism and dedication to duty should be recognized <br />in a proper and fitting manner, now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAK~OOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council extends to Lakewood Firefighter Gerald O. <br />Suttmilter its congratulations and the congratulations of all of the citizens of <br />this cormmunity for having been selected as the winner of the Benjamin Franklin <br />Fire Service Award and further that this Council commends Gerald O. Suttmiller <br />for his heroic actions which resulted in the receipt of such a distinguished <br />award. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized <br />and directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Gerald O. <br />Suttmiller, 29251 Sunset Drive, Weatlake, Ohio, and that a copy of this resolution <br />be spread upon the minutes of this meeting. <br /> <br /> Clerk>/ <br /> <br /> <br />
