RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />4963 BY: <br /> <br />Messrs. Brockman, Graber, Magnotto, <br />Sinagra, Usher, Werner <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION urging the appropriate elected representa- <br />tives to the Congress of the United States to support the pending legislation <br />to establish the Cuyahoga Valley National Historical Park and Recreation Area. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a Bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives <br />to establish the Cuyahoga Valley National Historical Park and Recreation Area, <br />the primary purpose of which is to preserve thg Cuyahoga Valley--the only major <br />open space remaining between the highly industrialized cities of Cleveland and <br />Akron, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the State of Ohio has no National parks or recreational areas <br />and there isa pressing and critical shortage of Federal and State recreation <br />facilities in this specific area, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Cuyahoga Valley is one of the most strategically located <br />resources in reach of urban America, and represents a unique natural resource that <br />can be programmed and preserved as a recreational mecca for the American public, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council desires to express'to the appropriate elected <br />representatives to the Congress of the United States its deep concern for the <br />preservation of this magnificent Valley and the relief of the critical shortage <br />of open space and outdoor recreational resources for the millions, of people in <br />the area, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this resolution constitutes an emergency m~asure in that <br />it is imperative that the Cuyahoga Valley recreation area be preserved as soon <br />as possible before development destroys the beauty of the Valley. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD~ <br />STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lakewood for and on behalf <br />of the citizens of the City of Lakewood strongly urges the representatives to <br />the Congress of the United States to support and expedite the pending legislation <br />to establish the Cuyahoga Valley National Historical Park and Recreation Area. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized <br />and directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to United States <br />Senators William B. Saxbe and Robert Taft, Jr., and to United States Representa- <br />tives James V. Stanton, Louis Stokes, Charles Ao Vanik and William E. Minshall. <br /> <br /> Section 3. That this resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency <br />measure for the reasons stated in the preamble hereof and provided it receives <br />the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members elected to Council, it shall <br />take effect and be in force immediately upon its ado~p~ion and approval by the <br /> <br /> "~ /~r~s~]en t <br /> <br />Approved: <br /> <br /> <br />
