RESOLUTION NO. 4971 BY: Messrs~ Brockman, Graber, Magnotto, <br /> McBride, Sinagra, Usher, Weraer <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION urging the appropriate elected <br />representatives to the Congress of the United States to support <br />legislation to make the recemtly enacted increase in Social Security <br />benefits available to recipients at the earliest possible time. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, during the summer of'1973 the Congress of the United <br />States agreed to an increase in Social Security benefits, said increase <br />to be effective on June 30, 1974, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the continued steep rise in living costs has necess- <br />arily resulted in undue hardship to thos~ persons who depend entirely, <br />or to a large extent, on Social Security allowances for their livelihood, <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a substantial percentage of the residents of the City <br />of LakeWood, Ohio do depend upon their Social Security allowances to meet <br />their day to d~y living expenses, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council desires to express to the appropriate <br />elected'representatives to the Congress of the United States its deep <br />concern for the continued w~lfare of all senior citizens, and particularly <br />those senior citizens residing in the City of Lakewood, Ohio, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this resolution constitutes an emergency measure in <br />that it is imperative that increased Social Security benefits he made <br />available to recipients of Social Security at the earliest possible time, <br />now~ therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNGIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE <br />OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lakewood for and <br />on behalf of the citizens of the City of Lakewood, and particularly those <br />persons dependant upon Social Security benefits for their livelihood, <br />strongly urges the representatives to the Congress of the United States <br />to support legislation to make recently enacted increases in Social <br />Security benefits available to tee%pleats at the earliest possible time. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby <br />authorized ~nd directed to forward certified copie~ of this resolution <br />to United States Senators William B. Saxbe add Robert Taft; J~. and to <br />United States Representatives William E. Minshall~ James V. Stanton, <br />Louis Stokes and Charles A. Vanik with an additional copy to be forwarded <br />tO Richard M.
