RESOLUTION NO. 5028 <br /> <br />McBride, Sinagra, Usher <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION approving the application of the provisions <br />of Section 23 of the United States Housing Act of 1937 as amended, to the City <br />of, Lakewood. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, under the provisions of Section 23 of the United States <br />Housing Act of 1937, as amended, the United States of America, Department of <br />Housing and Urban Development, is authorized to provide financial assistance to <br />local public housing agencies in providing low-rent housing by leasing dwelling <br />units in existing privately-owned structures, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, said Section 23 provides that the provisions thereof shall not <br />apply to any locality unless the governing body of the locality has, by resolution, <br />approved the application of such provisions to such locality, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council determines that it is in the bes~ interest of the <br />City of Lakewood to approve the application of the ~forementioned provisions to <br />the City of Lakewood, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Resolution constitutes an emergency measure in that it <br /> provides for the immediate preservation of the public health and welfare and for <br /> the further reason that it is in the best interest )f the City of Lakewood that <br /> the within program be implemented aE the earliest possible time; now, therefore. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OR THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OEIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the application of the provisions of Section 23 of the <br />United States Housing Act of 1937, ms amended, to the City of Lakewood is hereby <br />approved for three hundred (300 units of ~xisting housing for the elderly (as <br />defined by the Department of Housing and Urban Development). <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the foregoing approval is sub,eat to eligible residents <br />of the City of Lakewood being given first priority in th~ rental or re-rental of <br />such units and a separate list of such priority residents shall be kept for such <br />purpose by the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housin~ Authority. <br /> <br /> Section 3. That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency <br />measure for the reasons stated in the preamble hereof and provided it receives the <br />affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members elected to Council, it shall take <br />effect and be in force immediately upon its adoption and approval by the M~yor. <br /> <br />Appr °ved '/~.~C~/ <br /> <br />Clerk~ <br /> <br />Mayor <br /> <br /> <br />
