~1~ <br /> RESOLUTION N0. 5408 BY: Brown, Chinnock, McBride, <br /> Salmgn, Wendling, Brockman <br /> A RESOLUTION urging the appropriate elected rept~esentatives to the <br /> Congress of the United States to support H.R. Bill 2215 to $liminate the reduction <br /> in Social Security benefits for spouses and surviving spouses receiving certain <br /> Government pensions. <br /> WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States has the responsibility <br /> of protecting the rights of all citizens of the United States, and <br /> WHEREAS, the Congress recently adopted an Act entitled, "Social <br /> Security Amendments of 1977" wherein, pursuant to Section 3~4 thereof, Social <br /> Security benefits for spouses and surviving spouses receiving certain Government <br /> pensions were reduced, and <br /> WHEREAS, said provision results in a substantial inequity to <br /> married couples where one is subject to Social Security coverage and the other <br /> is subject to a public retirement benefit system, and <br /> WHEREAS, this Council desires to express to the appropriate elected <br /> representatives to the Congress of the United States its de$p concern for the <br /> continued welfare of all senior citizens, and particularly those senior citizens <br /> residing in the City of Lakewood; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br /> OHIO: <br /> Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lakewood, Ohio for and <br /> on behalf of the citizens of the City of Lakewood, and particularly those persons <br /> dependant on Social Security benefits for their livelihood Strongly urges the <br /> representatives to the Congress of the United States to support H.R. Bill 2215 <br /> to eliminate the reduction in Social Security benefits for Spouses and surviving <br /> spouses receiving certain Government pensions. <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and sh$ is hereby authorized ~ <br /> and directed to forward certified copies of this Resolution to United States <br /> Senators John Glenn and Howard M. Metzenbaum; U. S. Representatives Ronald M. <br /> Mottl, Mary Rose Oakar, Louis Stokes and Charles A. Vanik with additional copies <br /> forwarded to the President and Minority Leader of the U,S.
