RESOLUTION NO. 5413 <br /> <br />BY: Brown, Chinnock, McNally, <br /> S~lmon, Wendling, Brockman <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION expressing the opposition of the ~ouncil of the City <br />of Lakewood, for and on behalf of the citizens of the City of Lakewood, to the <br />closing of the Defense Contract Administration Services Region (DCASR) in <br />Cleveland, Ohio and requesting that said office be consoNidated in Cleveland, <br />Ohio. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in recent years, Cuyahoga County, in which county the <br />City of Cleveland, Ohio and the City of Lakewood, Ohio are located, has faced <br />the closing of several federal offices, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, at the present time, the Defense Department is proposing <br />to close the Defense Contract Administration Services Re~ion (DCASR) in <br />Cleveland, Ohio and consolidate its functions in Chicago~ Illinois, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the social and economic impact of thi~ closing on Cuyahoga <br />County would be substantial in that about 433 jobs and am annual payroll of <br />$9 million would be lost in the facility itself and it i~ estimated that <br />$1,271,000 in state and local taxes would also be lost, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Defense Department's own analysis~indicates the <br />relative impact of a Cleveland closing would be four times as great as that of <br />a Chicago closing, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council applauds the effort to cut back federal <br />spending when possible, but is advised that the savings ~rom consolidation in <br />Cleveland to the United States' taxpayer would be just about the same as the <br />savings from consolidation in Chicago, Illinois, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is the wish and desire of this Council to do all in its <br />power to prevent the closing of the Defense Contract Admiinistration Services <br />Region (DCASR) in Cleveland, Ohio; now, therefore, <br /> <br />OHIO: <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the Council of the City of LaNewood, for and on behalf <br />of the citizens of Lakewood, Ohio, strongly opposes the ~losing of the Defense <br />Contract Administration Services Region (DCASR) in Clevelland, Ohio and the <br />consolidation of its functions in Chicago, Illinois. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Council of the City of Laklewood, for and on behalf <br />of the citiznes of the City of Lakewood, Ohio, urgently r~quests the Defense <br />Department of the United States to consolidate the Defensle Contract Administration <br />Services Region (DCASR) office in Cleveland, Ohio. <br /> <br /> Section 3. That the Clerk of Council be and sh~ is hereby authorized <br />and directed to forward a certified copy of this resolutibn to Mr. Jimmy Carter, <br />President of the United States of America, to United Stat~s Senators Glenn and <br />Metzenbaum and to all other individuals who may have a determining voice in this <br />matter. <br /> <br />Adopted: <br /> <br />Approved: ~~/~/~ <br /> <br />Mayor <br /> <br /> <br />
