RESOLUTION N0. 5774-83 BY: Brown, Chinnock, Gallagher, Graham, McBride, Salmon, Wendling A.RESOLUTION extending congratulations to native Lakewoodite Richard F. Celeste on his election as the 64th Governor of the State of Ohio. WHEREAS, Richard F. Celeste was born in Lakewood, Ohio on November 11, 1937, was raised in Lakewood, and attended Madison Elementary School and Harding Middle School prior to graduating from Lakewood Nigh School in 1955, and WHEREAS, as a student at Lakewood High, Richard F. Celeste, more affec- tionately known as "Dick," was president of his senior class, editor-in-chief of the school year book "Cinema," president of the Hi-Y, active in senior A Cappella, Barnstormers, and the National Honor Society in addition to participating in J.V. Football, and WHEREAS, following his graduation from Yale University in 1959, Governor Celeste taught for one year as a Carnegie Teaching Fellow and in 1961 was selected Ohio`s Rhodes Scholar attending Oxford University in England, and WHEREAS, Dick's political career began in 1970 when he was elected to the first of two terms to the Ohio House of Representatives, was subsequently elected Lt. Governor of Ohio in 1974 and in 1979 appointed as Director of the Peace Corps by then President, Jimmy Carter, and WHEREAS, with his election as Ohio`s 64th Governor on November 4, 1982, Richard F. Celeste has brought great honor and distinction to the City of Lakewood and all of its citizens, and WHEREAS, this Council and the Administration of the City of Lakewood wish to join with his many friends and acquaintences in congratulating Governor Richard F. Celeste upon his election to the State's highest office and. to give due recognition to his outstanding. accomplishments; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. That this Council and the Administration of the City of Lakewood extend to Richard F. Celeste their heartiest congratulations upon his election as the 64th Governor of the State of Ohio and wish him continued years of success, prosperity, health, and happiness. Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Governor .Richard F. Celeste, and that a copy of this.
