RESOLUTION N0. 5846-84 BY: Brown, Chinnock, Gallagher, Graham, <br /> McBride, Salmon, Wendling <br /> A RESOLUTION urging the leadership and elected representatives of the <br /> Ohio Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives to support and enact Amended <br /> Senate Bill No. 169 relating to the registration, operation, and equipment <br /> requirements for motorized bicycles (mopeds). <br /> WHEREAS, there is now pending before the Ohio Legislature Amended <br /> Senate Bill No. 169 which would require the registration of motorized bicycles <br /> (mopeds), limit the maximum operating speed to 20 mph, require operators to <br /> wear protective helmets, require mopeds to be equipped with rear-view mirrors, <br /> and require mopeds to be operated within three feet of the right edge of the <br /> roadway, and <br /> WHEREAS, motorized bicycles (mopeds) may be operated by persons as <br /> young as 14 years of age and there is increasing evidence that the physical <br /> well being and safety of said young people is being endangered in the operation <br /> of said motorized bicycles, and <br /> WHEREAS, this Council determines that the provisions of Amended <br /> Senate Bill No. 169 are urgently required not only for the safety and <br /> protection of the operators of motorized bicycles, but also for the safety and <br /> protection of other persons using the roadways, and <br /> WHEREAS, this Council is deeply concerned for the safety and welfare <br /> of all riders of motorized bicycles and wishes to express its strong support of <br /> the adoption of Amended Senate Bill No. 169; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lakewood hereby expresses <br /> its strong support of Amended Senate Bill No. 169 now pending before the Ohio <br /> Legislature and strongly urges the Ohio Legislature to enact said Bill at the <br /> earliest possible time. <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized <br /> and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to President of the <br /> Senate Harry Meshel; Majority Floor Leader Marijene Valiquette; Minority Leader <br /> Paul Gillmor; Senate Minority Whip Paul Pfeifer; Speaker of the House Vern <br /> Riff e; House Majority Leader William L. Mallory; House Majority Whip Mary <br /> O'Boyle House Minority Leader Corwin Nixon; House Minority Whip Dave Johnson; <br /> State Senator Charles L. Butts; and State Representative Francine M.
