<br /> RESOLUTION No. 5889-84 BY: Brown, Chinnock, Gallagher, <br /> Graham, McBride, Salmon, <br /> Wendling <br /> A RESOLUTION urging State and Federal Elected Officials <br /> to take steps to reverse Blue Cross/Blue Shield's decision not to <br /> provide full health care cost reimbursement benefits to those <br /> subscribers utilizing Lakewood Hospital for health care. <br /> WHEREAS, Lakewood Hospital is a municipally owned hos- <br /> pital providing high quality, specialized and cost effective <br /> health care not only to the many residents of the City of Lake- <br /> wood, but to residents of neighboring communities as well, and <br /> WHEREAS, Lakewood Hospital was one of nine Northeastern <br /> Ohio hospitals and the only suburban hospital cut by Blue Cross/ <br /> Blue Shield in a competitive bidding process for full reimburse- <br /> ment to subscribers for hospital costs, and <br /> WHEREAS, as a result of this action, effective March 1, <br /> 1985, for }31ue Cross subscribers admitted to Lakewood Hospital <br /> for non-emergency care, the hospital will be reimbursed for only <br /> seventy percent i7U~) of its costs, and will necessarily absorb <br /> the remaining deficit amounts, and <br /> WHEREAS, this Council believes that the decision by <br /> Blue Czossjf3lue Shield was arbitrary, without foundation and a <br /> direct attempt to affect the future of our community owned <br /> hospital; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVI^.D F3Y 'PHE COUNCIL OF 'THE CITY OE' LAICFUIOOD, <br /> STATE OL' OHIO: <br /> Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lakewood <br /> hereby urges our State and £ederal Elected Officials to take <br /> whatever action may be necessary to effect a reversal of Filue <br /> Cross/Blue Shield's decision to remove Lakewood Hospital from <br /> its list of hospitals eligible for full reimbursement. <br /> Section 2. 'That the Clerk of Council be and she is <br /> hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of <br /> this Resolution to U.S. Congressmen Edward F.
