<br /> RESOLUTION NO. 6288-88 BY: Brown, Chinnock, Gallagher, <br /> Gazzana, George, Graham, WEnd.ling <br /> A RESOLUTION extending congratulations to Petty Officer <br /> Third Class Richard R. Schafrick on being awarded the Navy and Marine <br /> Corps Medal for his demonstration of courage and bravery. <br /> WHEREAS, Richard R. Schafrick of Lakewood, demonstrated <br /> bravery and courage when he rescued two fellow servicemen from the <br /> Straits of Magelian off the coast of Chile, and <br /> WHEREAS, on the same cruise, Richard R. Schafrick saved the <br /> life of another sailor who fell overboard on the destroyer John King <br /> into the icy sea, and <br /> WHEREAS, Petty Officer Third Class Richard R. Schafrick, a <br /> Lakewood High School graduate of 1985, was awarded the Navy and Marine <br /> Corps Medal, the highest non-combat award given by those services, and <br /> WHEREAS, this Council believes it appropriate to memorialize <br /> the actions of Richard R. Schafrick for receiving the Navy and Marine <br /> Corps Medal for his outstanding display of courage and bravery in <br /> risking his life to save the lives of three fellow servicemen; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> Section 1. That this Council extends to Richard R. <br /> Schafrick its heartiest congratulations and that of all of the <br /> citizens of this community on being awarded the Navy and Marine Corps <br /> Medal for his actions and heroism. <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby <br /> authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution <br /> to Mr. Richard R.
