RESOLUTION NO. 6320-88 gy:Brown, Chinnock, Gallagher, <br /> Gazzana, George, Graham, Wendling <br /> A RESOLUTION commending Patrolman John F. Sunday for his <br /> valor and dedication in preventing injury to Lakewood school children <br /> at the risk of his own life. <br /> WHEREAS, Patrolman John F. Sunday has been a Patrolman with <br /> the Lakewood Police Department since May 29, 1967, and serves as <br /> Assistant Crime Prevention Officer; and <br /> WHEREAS, on Monday, November 14, 1988, Officer Sunday was on <br /> duty in a traffic control capacity having responsibiltiy for a school <br /> crossing at Madison Avenue and Bunts Road in the absence of the <br /> regular crossing guard, and <br /> WHEREAS, during the course of that duty, at approximately <br /> 11:57 a.m., Officer Sunday observed a motor vehicle that he suspected <br /> would not stop before tkie school crossing, and <br /> WHEREAS, at that time, two Lakewood elementary school <br /> children were crossing in that school crossing under the supervision <br /> of Officer Sunday; and <br /> 49HEREAS, Officer Sunday stepped in front of the oncoming <br /> vehicle and pushed the children to safety, and his actions prevented <br /> injury and might have saved the lives of those children; and <br /> WHEREAS, such valor and dedication to duty without regard <br /> for his own personal safety is in keeping with the highest standards <br /> of service by a Police Officer and brings great credit to himself, the <br /> entire Department and his profession; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor find the valor, <br /> courage and dedication shown by Officer Sunday without regard for his <br /> own personal safety to be deserving of public recognition and <br /> appreciation. <br /> Section 2. That this Council and the Mayor commend <br /> Patrolman John F. Sunday for his valor, courage and dedication. <br /> Section 3. That this Council and the Mayor wish Patrolman <br /> Sunday a speedy recovery from the injuries suffered in this heroic <br /> effort and extend him our thanks for his service to our children and <br /> our community. <br /> Section 4. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby <br /> authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution <br /> to Patrolman John F.
