RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />6365-89 <br /> <br />BY: <br /> <br />Chinnock, Gazzana, George, <br />Graham <br /> <br /> A .RESOLUTION urging our State Legislature to consider enactment of <br />ozone-protection laws to aid in the prevention of destruction of our <br />planet. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the states of Vermont and Hawaii have enacted <br />ozone-protection measures which ban the sale or registration of automobiles <br />equipped with air conditioners that use CFC's, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, CFCs, are widely used as coolants and as propellants, such <br />as in spray cans, and when their molecules rise in the atmosphere they <br />damage the ozone layer fifteen to twenty miles, up, and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, CFC-12, considered to be the most damaging according to <br />scientists and testimony before legislative committees, is used in car <br />air-conditioners and is the United States' single largest source <br />contributing to ozone depletion, and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, all citizens should be concerned with the preservation of <br />the earth's ozone layer as the incidences of skin cancer, eye disease and <br />damage to plants and animals increases; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor, for and on behalf of <br />the citizens of Lakewood, respectfully urge our State Senator Charles <br />Butts, and State Representative Madeline Cain to consider enactment of <br />ozone protection laws to aid in the prevention of destruction of our <br />planet. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is directed to forward <br />a certified copy of this resolution to State Senator Charles Butts <br />and State Representative Madeline Cain, and that a copy of this resolution <br />be spread upon the minutes.of this meeting. <br /> <br />Adopted: <br /> <br />PRES I DENT <br /> <br /> <br />
