RESOLUTION NO. 6407-89 <br /> <br /> BY: Chinnock, Gallagher, <br />Gazzana, George, Graham, Wendling <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION declaring the week of October 22-29, 1989, Lakewood's <br />Red Ribbon Week Campaign, to create an awareness that everyone has a choice <br />to live a drug-free lifestyle. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, alcohol and other drug abuse in this nation has reached <br />epidemic stages, and the 15-24 year old age group is dying at a faster rate <br />than any other age group; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is imperative that visible, unified prevention <br />education efforts by community members be launched to reduce the demand for <br />drugs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the National Federation of Parents For Drug Free Youth and <br />the State of Ohio are sponsoring the National Red Ribbon Campaign offering <br />citizens the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to drug free <br />lifestyles; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the National Red Ribbon Campaign will be celebrated in <br />every community in America during "Red Ribbon Week," October 22-29, 1989; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, President George Bush and Mrs. Barbara Bush are the <br />National Honorary Chairpersons to provide this community focus on a Drug Free <br />America; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, grouPs representing business, government, law enforcement, <br />schools, religious institutions, service organizations, youth, physicians, <br />senior citizens, military, sports teams, and individuals will demonstrate <br />their commitment to drUg-free, healthy lifestyles by wearing and displaying <br />red ribbons ouring thisiweek-long campaign; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Community of Lakewood further commits its resources to <br />ensure the success of the Red Ribbon Campaign; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Red Ribbon Week Campaign will contribute to the <br />health, safety and welfare of all our citizens, now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVEI <br /> <br /> SeCtion lj TI <br />22-29, 1989, as Lakewoo <br />all our citizens. <br /> <br /> BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br />lat this Council and the Mayor hereby declare October <br /> Red Ribbon Week and encourage the participation of <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Mayor and City Council encourage all of our <br />citizens to pledge as fOllows: "My Choice..~..Drug Free." <br /> Section 3. That this resolution is hereby declared to be an <br />emergency measure for the reasons stated in the preamble hereof and provided <br />it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members elected to <br />Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its adoption <br />and approval by the Ma~or; o~herwise, it shall take effect and be in force <br />after the earliest periold allowed by law~ <br /> <br />Adopted: _~~ <br /> <br />Approved.'~ ~ 'lYf. <br /> <br />CLERK <br /> <br /> <br />
