<br /> A RESOLUTION to commemorate the late Honorable Harold J. Craig and
<br />express the sympathy of the Lakewood City Officials to Judge Craig's family.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Harold J. Craig's 23 years of private practice gave him
<br />unparalleled knowledge of the law and the skills necessary to effectively
<br />understand the process under which a court operates, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Judge Craig served Lakewood as'Acting Prosecutor from 1949
<br />to 1952, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, 'Harold J. Craig served Lakewood as Acting Judge of the
<br />Lakewood Municipal Court from 1957 to 1963, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Harold Craig was appointed Law Director of the City of
<br />Lakewood in 1964 and served Lakewood in that capacity until 1970, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, in 1970, due to the sudden illness of Lakewood's then
<br />Municipal Court Judge, Harold Craig was asked by the Governor of,the State of
<br />Ohio to fill that vacancy, thus becoming Acting Judge, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, in 1971, Harold Craig was elected to complete the
<br />unexpired term of his predecessor, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Judge Craig was re-elected three times thereafter by the
<br />citizens of this community--each time, receiving the endorsements of his
<br />peers, who cited among other things, his integrity, competence and judicial
<br />temperament, as their reasons for hiS endorsements, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Judge Craig demonstrated creativity and innovativeness by
<br />guiding the court through its renovation and instituting measures for greater
<br />automation and security in the court--giving the court the reputation of
<br />efficiency and respect which it enjoys today, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Judge Harold Craig was a member of the Ohio State Bar
<br />Association, the Cleveland Bar Association, the Cuyahoga County Bar
<br />Association and the Ohio Municipal Judges Association--which he served as
<br />president, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Judge Craig was a strong supporter of Lakewood's
<br />benevolent organizations, having been a long-time member of both Lakewood
<br />Kiwanis and the Elks, and he served as an advisor to the local Boy Scouts
<br />Explorer Post concerned with Law,
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Judge Harold J. Craig has served the-Lakewood community
<br />continuously and with true dedication since 1949--both as a public official
<br />and as a humanitarian, now, therefore,
<br />
<br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO:
<br />
<br /> Section l. That the City of Lakewood, through its Mayor and City
<br />Council, honors the memory of one of Lakewood's finest citizens and public
<br />servants and extends its deepest sympathies to his wife, Kathleen, and his
<br />children, Lisa, Laura and Mark.
<br />
<br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be, and she is hereby
<br />authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to
<br />Kathleen S. Craig, 17600 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio 44107, and that a
<br />copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting.
