RESOLUTION NO. 6430-89 <br /> <br />BY: Brown, ChinnOck, Gallagher, <br />Gazzana,, George, Graham <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to honor the 1989 St. Ignatius High School Football <br />Team on winning its second straight Division I State Championship. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, special commendation and recognition are due to all <br />members of the St. Ignatius Varsity Football Team and Coach Chuck Kyle for <br />their outstanding performance at this year's 18th Annual State Football <br />Championship Game, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood is proud of the accomplishments of <br />these young men, and we appreciate the fine recognition they have brought to <br />Northern Ohio, particularly the Greater Cleveland area, by their magnificent <br />talent and sportsmanship, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, St. Ignatius has brought home the "Big School" state <br />football championship for the second straight year, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, St. Ignatius has captured the Number 1 ranking in all of <br />high school football throughout the nation, according to USA TODAY, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, St. Ignatius now has a 29-game winning streak, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in front of 30,000 fans, St. Ignatius rallied from a 21-14 <br />halftime deficit to defeat one of the state's most historically powerful <br />football schools, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the senior members of this team have never experienced <br />defeat while at St. Ignatius, having achieved a perfect record of 44-0, <br />extending back to freshmen football, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, St. Ignatius has accomplished these feats while being <br />recognized as primarily an academic institution, having placed 100% of its <br />past graduating class into 4-year colleges and universities, and while <br />boasting 16 National Merit Semi-Finalists and 27 National Merit Commended <br />Students, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, St. Ignatius has been molding young men's characters <br />through the rigors of both sport and academics for the past 103 <br />years--evidence of which is this year's second consecutive State <br />Championship, as well as the top high school national ranking from USA TODAY, <br />now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor extend to the St. <br />Ignatius High School Football Team and Coach Chuck Kyle their congratulations <br />and commendation for the team's achievement of the title Division 1 State <br />Championship. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be, and she is hereby <br />authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to <br />Coach Chuck Kyle, St. Ignatius High School, 1911 West 30th Street, Cleveland, <br />Ohio 44113, and that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of <br />this meeting. <br /> <br />Adopted: <br /> <br />Approved '_~~/fS% <br /> ¥ <br /> <br /> <br />
