RESOLUTION NO: 6461-.w0 BY:Boscia, Gal~agner, Gazzana, George, Graham, Roth, Smith A RESOLUTION urging the elected representatives of the Ohio Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives to support the passage of H. B. 690 which will require nuclear electric utilities to provide through a public information telephone line certain information on releases of radioactive materials at nuclear electric facilities in the state. WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood is known to be at the forefront concerning issues of environment, and WHEREAS, nuclear power plants have scheduled and unscheduled releases of radioactive materials to the environment, and WHEREAS, ionizing radiation health effects, and is known to have harmful WHEREAS, federal regulations require the reporting of radiation releases. The frequency of reports is such that long periods of time elapse before the information is accessible to the public, and WHEREAS, this delay in public access to the information is unjustified and the public has a right to know this information in a timely manner; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL STATE OF OHIO: OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lakewood fully supports House Bill 690 which requires nuclear electric utilities to provide information to the public about plant operations and releases of radioactive materials, via a 24 hour~~ day, toll-free telephone information line. Section 2.
