RESOLUTION NO. 6477-90 BY: Boscia, Gallagher, Gazzana, George, Graham. Roth, Smith A resolution honoring the St. Edward Eagle Varsity Hockey team for winning its 3rd State Championship in six years. WHEREAS, a special commendation and recognition are due to all members of the St. Edward Varsity Hockey Team and Coach Bob Whidden for their outstanding performance at this years 13th Annual State Hockey Championship game; and WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood is proud of the accomplishments of these young men, and we appreciate the fine recognition they have brought to northern Ohio, particularly Lakewood, by their manificent talent and sportsmanship; and WHEREAS, St. Edwards has brought home the State Hockey Championship for the 3rd time in six years; and WHEREAS, St. Edwards is the first school to boast three championships in the 13 year existence of the state tournament; and WHEREAS, St. Edward scored three goals in the second period to break open a tie game, and beat Sylvania Northview 4-1 for the state championship; and WHEREAS, St. Edward compiled a 30-1 season record, the only blemish on their record being a loss to North Olmsted in the second game of the season; now, therefor, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. That the Mayor by and through the Council of the City of Lakewood extend to the St. Edward Hgh School Varsity Hockey Team and their coach, Bob Whidden their congratulations and commendations for the teams achievement of the title of State Hockey Champion. Section 2.
