RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />6499-90 <br /> <br />BY:Boscia, Gallagher, Gazzana, <br /> George, Graham, Roth, <br /> Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION designating and proclaiming the week of June 3-9, <br />1990, as National Safe Boating Week in the City of Lakewood. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, more than 70 million Americans will choose recreational <br />boating as a way to relax with family and friends in 1990. Unfortunately, <br />tragedies do occur on the water. Responsible boat operators learn about <br />their boats, safety equipment, the environment in which they operate and <br />in their own abilities and limitations; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in recognizing that hundreds of lives could be saved <br />each year by spreading safe boating information to the public, the <br />Congress of the United States by joint resolution requested the President <br />to proclaim annually one week as National Safe Boating Week; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Lakewood is bordered on two sides by navigable <br />waterways and it is the intention of this Administration to affirm and <br />support the goals of National Safe Boating Week; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the availability of safe boater information made <br />possible by Rocky River Power Squadron through boater safety week may help <br />prevent a boating tragedy; and <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor suport the goals of <br />National Safe Boating Week and designate and proclaim June 3-9, 1990, as <br />National Safe Boating Week in the City of Lakewood. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That this Council and the Mayor urge all those who <br />use the waterways to acquire the skills and knowledge to maintain their <br />own safety and the safety of others around them. <br /> <br /> Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal actions of <br />this Council concerning and relating to the passage of th~s resolution <br />were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, and that all such <br />deliberations of this Council and of any of its committees that resulted <br />in such formal action were in meetings open to the public in compliance <br />with all legal requirements. <br /> <br /> Section 4. That this resolution is hereby declared to be an <br />emergency measure for the reasons stated in the preamble hereof and <br />provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members <br />elected to Council, it shall take effect and be in--ce immediately upon <br />its adoption and approval by the Mayor; otherwise, i~xA~FT'-t~ke effect <br />and be in force after the earliest '/~~y lawt~~ <br /> % <br /> <br />APPROVED: <br /> <br />June 5, 1990 <br /> <br /> <br />
