RESOLUTION NO. 6572-91 <br /> <br />BY: Boscia, Gallagher, George, <br /> Graham, Roth, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION in recognition of Fair Housing Month and <br />the 23rd anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 and Title <br />VIII, which declared as a national policy that housing <br />throughout our country be made available to all citizens on the <br />basis of equality and fairness. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Act outlaws any discrimination in the sale, <br />rental, or financing of housing because of race, color, religion, <br />sex, national origin, handicap or familial status, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Fair Housing Act reflects <br />willingness and determination to make sure that <br />available to all without discrimination, and <br /> <br /> Americans' <br />housing is <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in the 23 years since its passage, judicial and <br />administrative enforcement and public and private efforts to <br />induce voluntary compliance with the law have helped countless <br />people obtain the housing they desire, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, America has truly succeeded in moving closer to <br />the ideal of a society open to all, free from discrimination in <br />housing, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the 23rd anniversary of the Act is an <br />appropriate time for all of us to reaffirm our dedication as a <br />Nation to the principles of equal opportunity on which the Fair <br />Housing Act is grounded; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, <br />STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and the City <br />Administration wish to reaffirm their commitment to open housing <br />and equal housing opportunity for all our citizens. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That it is the goal of this Council and City <br />Administration to eliminate housing discrimination and assure the <br />rights of every citizen to buy, rent or sell housing without <br />regard to race, sex, religion, national origin or handicap, as <br />guaranteed by Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 as <br />amended, and the laws of the State of Ohio. <br /> <br /> Section 3. That the Clerk of Council be, and she is <br />hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this <br />Resolution to the Director of the United States Housing & Urban <br />Development Department, Region 5, Community Planning & Development <br />Division, 200 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215 and that a <br />copy of this Resolution be spread upon~__~the minutes of this <br />meeting. ~ '" <br /> <br />Adopted: ~~ /, /~/ ................
