RESOLUTION: <br /> <br />6573-91 <br /> <br />BY: Boscia, Gallagher, George, <br /> Graham, Roth <br /> <br /> AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION opposing the privatization of <br />liquor sales in the city of Lakewood and urging Governor Voinovich <br />to retain control of the liquor industry. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Governor George V. Voinovich has instructed the <br />Director of the Ohio Department of Liquor Control to devise a plan <br />for the privatization of liquor sales; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the increased profits which are expected to <br />result from privatization would benefit the State but cause 1,100 <br />state liquor store employees to lose their jobs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council shares the concerns of Mothers <br />Against Drunk Driving and others that privatization would lead to <br />increased drinking and sales of alcohol to minors; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this resolution constitutes an emergency <br />measure providing for the immediate preservation of the public <br />peace, property, health or safety in that the Governor must be <br />apprised of the social issues involved in privatization of liquor <br />sales before he asks the General Assembly to fast track his <br />proposal; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, <br />STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council opposes the privatization <br />of liquor sales in Ohio and urges Governor Voinovich, in the <br />interest of the health and safety of Ohio's citizens, to retain <br />control of the liquor industry. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council is hereby directed to <br />forward a certified copy of this resolution to Governor George V. <br />Voinovich. <br /> <br /> Section 3.
