<br /> A RESOLUTION in support of the passage of H.R. 7 which
<br />requires a waiting period before the purchase of a handgun.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the threat of handgun violence is too serious
<br />to dispute, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, this Council wishes to send its message to
<br />our federal representatives that passage of H.R. 7 is the first
<br />step towards decreasing handgun violence, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, accredited polls indicate that the regulations
<br />surrounding accessibility of handguns be more strict, and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, this Council believes it imperative that
<br />our elected representatives to Congress support gun control at
<br />the national level; now, therefore,
<br />
<br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO:
<br />
<br /> Section 1. That the Council of the City of Lakewood;
<br />for and on behalf of the approximately 60,000 citizens of the
<br />City of Lakewood, strongly urges passage of H.R. 7, also known
<br />as the Brady Bill, to require a national seven-day waiting
<br />period to allow local law enforcement to conduct background
<br />checks on handgun purchasers through licensed dealers.
<br />
<br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby
<br />authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this
<br />resolution to Senator John Glenn, Senator Howard Metzenbaum,
<br />Congressman Edward Feighan, Congressman Charles Luken, Congressman
<br />Willis Gradison, Jr., Congressman, Tony P. Hall, Congressman
<br />Michael Oxley, and Members of Congress Paul E. Gillmor, Bob McEwen,
<br />David L. Hobson, John A. Boehner, Marcy Kaptur, Clarence A. Miller,
<br />Dennis E. Eckart, John R. Kasich, Donald J. Pease, Thomas Sawyer,
<br />Chalmers P. Wylie, Ralph Regula, James A. Traficantz. J~., Douglas
