RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />6596-91 <br /> <br /> BY: Boscia, Gallagher, <br />George, Graham, Roth, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION designating and proclaiming the week of <br />June 10-17, 1991 as National Flag Week; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, by Act of Congress of the United States dated <br />June 14, 1777, the first official Flag of the United States was <br />adopted; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, by Act of Congress dated August 3, 1949, June <br />14 of each year was designated "NATIONAL FLAG DAY"; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Congress has requested the President to <br />issue annually a proclamation designating the week in which June <br />14th occurs as National Flag Week; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Flag Day celebrates our nation's symbol of <br />unity, a democracy in a republic, and stands for our country's <br />devotion to freedom, to the rule of all, and to equal rights for <br />all; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in keeping with the President's request this <br />year, the City of Lakewood urges all its citizens to fly the flag <br />during the week of June 10-17, 1991; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is especially fitting that in this the year <br />of Operation Desert Storm, Americans should show their unity with <br />this simple yet meaningful gesture; and <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the Mayor and his Administration by and <br />through the Council of the City of Lakewood support the goals of <br />the President and the Congress by proclaiming and designating <br />June 10-17, 1991 as National Flag Week in the City of Lakewood. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Mayor and this Council urge all <br />citizens of Lakewood to fly the flag during the week of June <br />10-17 particularly on Friday, June 14, 1991 which is the <br />traditional Flag Day as proclaimed by~ngress.
