RESOLUTION NO. 6639-91 BY: Boscia. Go. ghat. George. Graham. Roth. Smith A RESOLUTION designating and proclaiming the month of October, 1991 as National DOmestic Violence Awareness Month in the City of Lakewood. WHEREAS, women are the victims of a growing violent crime epidemic in the United States, which violence takes many forms; i.e., rape, battering, robbery, aggravated assault, and murder, not only.by persons unknown to their victims, but also at the hands of their male partners; and WHEREAS, domestic violence results in a cycle of abuse not only to women, but also to children as well, which perpetuates itself from one generation to another in families where these acts occur; and WHEREAS, to break the cycle of domestic violence, it is necessary to teach and educate children and their parents that there are alternative, non-violent choices available; and WHEREAS, this Council has already acted responsibly in passing a Resolution urging adoption of the Violence Against Women Act of 1991, which Act will help in efforts to end domestic violence through funding and public awareness; and WHEREAS, The Center for the Prevention of Domestic Violence is inviting everyone to observe October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. That this Council and Mayor support the goals of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and designate and proclaim the month of October, 1991 as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the City of Lakewood. Section 2. That this Council and Mayor urge all citizens to participate in this observance by educating themselves and their families .to the realities and far-reaching effects of domestic violence and what steps can be taken to correct the causes of this leading causeof death among women in the~ ~ CLERK MAYOR
